Of course, working at Chrysler he had plenty of $$$ to pump thru the vending machines in the first place.

I figure by NOT using the vending machines I'll save more. Funny, now that I count my "no spend days", I have much less spare change laying around!

LOL. That's what I was thinking. He used the vending machines a lot. But, the point is still valid. I still pick change up in the parking lot.

Dolores, thanks for the article. I save my change and extra money (like rebates, etc). In August I purchased a new digital camera for the family with this money. I think DH became convinced then that saving change was a good idea. We now have $40 rolled and I think I can open a bank account to save for a new car. (new to us! I doubt I will get $25,000 before the old car dies! LOL!)

Thats an amazing story. We have about $30 to $40 in loose change a month. But thats due to dh. He's a truck driver and gets his coffee or snack at least once a day and when he comes home he puts his change in the bowl and I count and roll it at the end of the month.
    Thanks for the story.

I'm going to show this to my DD, who thinks that if it's not paper, it's not real money.

Great story! Id love to have seen how the salesman reacted to all the change! Not to mention the poor soul who had to go deposit it!

Im not sure why he didn't take the money to the bank first.

In 2006 I paid cash for my van 32,000 in cash ,but we put it all in the bank first and wrote a check to the dealer.
The dealer was impressed and to one up him my dh told the man to put the car in my name only because I was the one who saved all that money. See why I love my hubby?

And yes that change jar can really add up. My dh only gets 20 bucks cash each week. When he gets home he puts all his change for the day into a jar. In three months he saved 78.00. NOt bad for a guy who only gets 80.00 a month.

    Good for that guy!

I'm pleasantly surprised to see that they didn't give him any flak about the coinage. Usually when you do things the old fashined way---nowadays---they give you some kind of crap over it. Like (gasp!) "Cash???? We couldn't POSSibly!!"

25K in 13 years. Pretty good!
