Default Excited with my great deal today!

I went to Wal-Mart for a few things. When I got by the meat, they had just marked down their 80/20 lean ground beef to $1.05 per pound!!! I bought all that they had --- over 100 pounds! The normal price for lean around here is around $2.50+ per pound.

Lots of packaging when I got home, but we have enough in the freezer now to last for quite some time!

That is a good deal! We only have three in our family, so we could never use that much ground beef. We eat it only about once a week. I seldom stock up on great quantities of ground beef because of its short freezer storage life, only about 3 months. Here is a link to the storage life of many foods:

It does keep longer than a couple months. We get our beef, side at a time. We have never had anything go bad, including the ground beef. And it takes us 6 mo to a year to go through it all. That guideline, is referring to "premium" quality. There may be a texture change after a certain period of time. We've never noticed anything. Cured meats stay in our freezer for long periods too, with no issues. We have cured our own meats when we get deer and that lasts many many months. COokie dough works great in the freezer, witha longer life than what is stated. I wonder if altitude makes a difference for freezing as it does for baking?

I have caught the similiar deal at Wal-mart before. I've asked the "butchers" when the meat goes on sale, and was told that first thing in the morning about 7 am, and they usually have the most on Monday mornings...don't know if that holds true for all Wal-marts or not!

I do know that you have to use it or freeze it right away! But that is an awesome deal! I can't believe you found over 100 pounds! I would have bought all they had too!

Hey, I see a Once a Month cooking session coming up at your house! You can cook meatballs, taco meat, spaghetti sauce, etc. and have it all ready for future use. What a great deal!

I was able to score some marked down meat today today. I got four packages of ground beef they had there. After I got it there was this man who came and I think he gave me a look like Why did you take all that meat?

Wow! That's a great deal. My freezer is stacked right now. I was shopping with ds on Sunday doing some last minute stocking and I got ten pounds of ground turkey because it was $1 a pound. My ds thought that was a lot, lol. I can only imagine his face if I had gotten 100 pounds
