    Default My diswasher

died! I have decided not to get a new one as of now. The reason is I would have to spend money that I really don't have or that needs to go to pay off dr bills. I have been washing dishes by hand for 3 days now and it only takes between 20-30 minutes to wash, dry, and put them away. Since I am not going to be working after next Friday I figure I can do that. I do plan on eventually getting me a new one. But I am going to save for it and research and get the best one I can afford. Wish me luck on holding out. I really do not like to wash dishes by hand.

We don't even have a dishwasher. When neighbors/friends found out they gasped. We didn't have one growing up until I was about 16-17 years old and my DH's family never had one and still don't.
I have to admit though, when we have guests over for dinner its usually us ladies that get to do the dishes while the men are chilling out.
My 5 year old likes to help me do the dishes and I have to say I enjoy that quality time. I am spoiled though because my DH helps out really well and does the dishes often.

Congrats on resisting the urge not running right out and buying a new one! I have one, and I've been doing a little experiment with it. I can't seem to lower our water bill, and after trying everything else, I've come to the conclusion that the culprit is my dishwasher.

So I've started washing everything by hand. And I've found that it isn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I know it is using way less water! But, we'll see what the water bill says when it comes!

Good luck with the handwashing. I found that it became a part of my routine really fast, then it wasn't so bad!

Good luck, you can do it. We didn't have one growing up either, in a household of 13. My sis & I did them all. I hated it, but I survived. I commend you for your determination. WTG!

It sounds like win win situation. You will have time to save for a new one and you will save on electricity by hand washing.

Having a dishwasher - is it really all its cracked up to be? Its great that you've chosen to use your $$ elsehwere before replacing the dishwasher.

Hahaha I on the other hand like doing dishes by hand. I always drool and mention that Id also like to have a dishwasher but Im used to handbombing them. Its second nature. The key to not having to do so many dishes at once is to wash as you go as you're cooking and prepping. And having a sinkful of soapy water for the dishes to soak helps even more. Pick it outta the soapy water, wish, rinse and done. Its when you stack and let set so food can crust onto the dishes - thats when it takes eons. I think I did my sisters Christmas dinner dishes in 1/2 hr. Thats all the cooking pots, pans, serving trays and utensils and the actual dinner dishes. Her and hubby dried as I handed dishes off so I had help.

I actually voluntarily got rid of mine-I kind of enjoy doing dishes by hand. Not the actual washing of the dishes, but the quiet time I get during the washing of the dishes.
