Default Sat. January 5th--what did you do frugal today?

I am roasting a chicken for dinner, and took the wings and neck and giblets and made chicken stock with them to freeze (about the amt of 10 cans of store bought broth).

Then I took the meat off the wings and neck and cut up the giblets, and made dinner for MIL's little dog we are watching. She loved it. Saved a can of dog chow.

I ate breakfast and lunch with what I have in the house. BF is cooking tonight and I'm bringing the wine (I have a stockpile at home! LOL!). It was almost a no-spend day, but unfortunately I need to put some gas in the car.

Heat is turned down and laundry will be done in cold water.

I'm going to cash in my 2007 coins to add to my snowball today too.

I started the Change Jar and talked myself out of picking up something for lunch. WE HAVE FOOD. Why do I want fast food so badly all the time?!

Cleaned house, that is a "free" thing to do that keeps me busy and out of the stores.

I made BBQ Beef Stew in the crockpot.
The only money I have spent today was the money for the tickets to my DD17's basketball games. Seems like they would let parents in for free LOL!

~I'm in a spendy mood so I stayed home. Sent DH out to Walmart and Aldi instead so I wouldn't find and buy a bunch of stuff we 'need'. I also cooked down some poultry and made a gallon of broth. It's simmering on the stove now as Turkey Rice Soup. I also baked some homemade bread and a banana cake. DH just finished using our carpet shampooer to clean some spots off of the couch we're giving away. The soap compartment was empty so I filled it with a 50%water/50% soap solution, as always. Works just as well. I also removed the cushion covers and washed them in cold water and hung them to air dry.~

I shopped to save money today, hehe.

~I went to 3 stores to hit the sales today and spent $160 on groceries. I bought stock up food mostly, just a few perishables, so I should only need to top up with milk, fruit and veggies this month, with some left over for some more stockpiling.
~ I persuaded gymnastics to let my oldest daughter try it out before I pay, because I am not sure she is going to enjoy it. Turns out she loved it, so I am gonna pay now.
~ I started my weekend cooking spree today, making food for the entire week ahead to save on those drive-thru nights
~Started organizing the disaster zone that is my basement, putting things aside for the summer yard sale
~ did 8 loads of laundry in cold today
~cleaned and organized my fridge and pantry

-have had heat set moderately low
-lights off as much as possible
-no shopping! I got the bug to buy books so I built a list at Barnes and Noble and ended up putting them all on hold at my library
    -made lunch/dinner from the pantry!
-Came up with a brilliant idea---why not make my own frozen garlic bread....buy loaf of bread, spread with butter, garlic, put cheese on it and then freeze until I want to use it...
-froze leftover spaghetti sauce that I won't be able to eat.

I went grocery shopping today and stocked up on some staples like juice and peanut butter. They were so cheap!
I didn't feel too well so I stayed home after that and drank tea and read a book.
Made turkey sausages on hoagie rolls for dinner. (12 sausages for $1.38 and peppers from the summer)
Made a pot of minestrone soup for lunches this week. Salvaged a zucchini by doing this!

Dh and Ds went to work for part of the day. Yeah!

Did Perfume and Southbeach kit on freebies.

Heated up the last of the ham and bean soup for my lunch.

Dh got rebate for broken tool from his last employer so he wanted to go to Ace Hardware to get a new tool bag since his was unrepairable. I wanted to go to the library so we made one trip. Dh only had to spend $2.00 more beyond the rebate to get the tool bag he needed and I got 5 Swap (don't have to check them out and can keep them forever if I want!) library books. Yeah!

Heat was set on 69 today. The cold wind was a good thing today as we identified another area that needs weather sealing. We have the stuff to fix it in the garage so will do that on Sunday.

For dinner we'll have boneless pork chops that dh got on sale and cook them on the george foreman grill that I got for $2.00, 3 years ago, lol. It cooks great! Also having leftover potatoe salad that dh made last night. Yummy!

Did a quick count of my change jar and it's up to about $12.00! Yippee!

So today we spent $2.00 for dh's tool bag and about 1 1/2 gallon of gas, so almost $5.00 for gas. All lights were shut off all day and only did one load of laundry and hung that up to dry. We won't be running the dishwasher tonight either.
