Thumbs up I am so PROUD!!

I just had to share this story my DH just told me. It's a relatively nice day here so my DH John and my DD Ramsey (age 2) walked to my work to see me. He was laughing when he walked in and said "You'll never believe what she said!"

Apparently they had been talking about what to make for lunch and Rams said "go eat." as in out to eat. This used to be a Sunday tradition for us but we are cutting back because we plan to start building our new home in a couple months. He said "No, kiddo, we're broke!" He told me she got a really serious look on her face and said, "New house?" HAHA That kills me! What a quick learner! Now I've got both DH and DD on board! Yeah for me!

Thanks! Yes that's my Rams. She is about the coolest person I know! And he was kinda forced into being on board. He's the one that wants certain fancy-pants things for the house so he gets to sacrafice. I mean who really NEEDS heated tile?! But he has been really great about cutting back so that he can have those things so it's a fair trade off. BTW if anyone here has every built a house, I'd be really interested in any advice you may have. I helped my mom do her's last year so I know a little, but not a lot. Thanks again!

Design the house such that you don't need to turn on lights during the daytime. Sounds obvious, but this house has some very dark rooms. Even better if you can design it for cross-ventilation breezes in the spring/summer/fall.

Design a mudroom. Place for coats (the raincoat, lighter coat, heavier coat), hats-mitts, bookbags, pocketbook, keys, workbag, lunchboxes, boots, sports equipment etc. Keeping this massive clutter organized and out of the main house.

Design a "landing". Everyone comes into the house with the mail, stuff from school, the briefcase, pocketbook, every kid project, newspapers and drops it right onto our kitchen island. The island is always "full" and always needs decluttering - instead of being the main cooking spot and clutter-free. So being realistic, you just get into the house and haven't had time to put stuff exactly away, where does it "land".

these are all really great ideas. we're currently "flipping" our house, but these things really give me something to watch for when we're ready to buy or build our "real" home. tfs!
