Thumbs up Who cuts your hair?

Just curious, how everyone's family gets haircuts. My little guys are young enough now, and Dh just sports a buzz cut, that I can cut everyone's hair at home. Plus, I have kind of a shaggy cut, so Dh cuts mine and helps me color it (and actually, he is better than any salon I've ever been too! ).

Anyways, I decided to add this up and see how much it was actually saving me, just because I was curious. We have always done this, just because it was the easiest, when the kids were little. I took them once to get their haircut at a salon, and they both freaked out. At home, it doesn't bother them at all. So, it is convenient and cheap, I just thought I would add up how much it is actually saving us!

Cost of one haircut for DS or DH: $11 plus tip = total $15
They get haircuts once a month
    $15 x 12 = $180 x 3 boys = $540.00 per year for the 3 men

    Now for me!
    Hair cut:
$18 for cut & blow dry plus tip = total $22
Let's say, I get it cut 6 times per year (which is about right for me)
    $22 x 6 = $132 per year for haircuts for me
    Color:
    $60 (for one color...no highlights, which I get at home for $10) + tip = $70.00
    4 times per year minimum
    $70 x 4 = $280 per year for having my hair colored

Total savings for the family by doing hair at home = $952!

We save almost $1000 per year, just by doing our hair at home! I was surprised that it was that much. Add in all the other stuff I used to have done at the salon (eyebrow waxing, manicures, pedicures...granted, I haven't had any of these in at least 6 years) and I'd be well over $1000!

I get my hair cut twice a year. I do get eyebrows waxed at this time. So total trip is $25. So $50 for me every year. I have never dyed my hair, but if i did would be at home.

My dd5 has thin hair, all one length. I trim it a few times a year.

My ds9 gets his head shaved up by his dad every month.

TOTAL: $50 a year. Not bad!

I do my own. Haircuts were running me $30 +tip every 6-8 weeks when I had my short cut maintained by the girl who cut my hair off.

DBF does his own too. Job requires high n tight, so he buzzes it every week.

I cut Dh and all 3 kids hair.

I go to ProHaircutters 2x a year to get my hair cut and highlighted. However, for my birthday (January) and Mother's Day (May) my parents give me a gift certificate their, so my hair is always free.

I haven't gotten my hair cut in over a year. I need to, getting tired of barrettes & ponytails. Not a fashion maven but I should take better care. I cut Dh's hair and it time to do it again.

Dh cuts and colors my hair. Box color mix from drugstore bought on sale and usually with coupons too.

Dh gets his hair cut every 6 to 8 weeks at the hair salon at WalMart, so not too terribly expensive.

I have my cosmetology license, so I do the haircuts for the whole family. My 2 year old will actually ASK me to cut his hair and sits perfectly still for momma.
I usually cut/color my own hair, unless the cut is drastic and I can't reach the length in the back. I hate going places to get it done, because i KNOW exactly how to cut it to get the results I want, but nobody else seems to be capable.

It definitely saves us a bunch of money!!

I cut mine. Its long with long layers and is super easy to maintain that way. Dh has trimmers and maintains a buzz cut so he does his own.

I cut my own, just to trim bangs and then once every three or four months I may get a trim. The ds gets his cut at the place too, tried to use the electric razor and he screamed I was killing him. Dd and husband at shop too..

I do my DH and my DDs. I am a cosmetologist. LOL! We can have our own hair done for free at the salon where I work. So all of ours is free. I am also given the privilege of coloring, waxing, perming, etc. to my immediate family. The only thing I pay for is the shampoo, conditioner and hair products we use. I must say though... all of you are bad for my business!! I have to eat too ya know. Hehehehehe!

This is one luxery I have finally given in to. I will get mine cut tomorrow, it's 20.00 (including tip) I get mine cut about every 6 weeks, dh is the same. The same gal has cut my hair for over 10 years. Before that, my mom always did it, which meant I only had it done when I went home for a visit. It costs me 45.00 for cut and highlights/cover grey (every 3 months) But at this point in time....(with no debt except mortgage), I have finally allowed this for myself without guilt!

I cut my own. My step mom is also a hair dresser so... that comes in handy when I get a little scissor happy.

My hair is short so I have to get it cut every 5 weeks with touch-up color. Not very frugal, but my job is appearance-oriented and I am in front of people all the time so I try to keep my hair looking nice. I did, however, recently find a stylist to do my cut/color for a fraction of what my pre-Money Makeover stylist was charging, so I'm OK spending the money.

I haven't had my hair cut since 2004 - and only then because I -had- to. --Note to self - never dread-lock my hair again--

I have very long hair. I color it when I want a new color... or when DD reminds me I have grays. I wait for it to go on sale 2/$6 since I need 2 boxes. If I dye it black, I can go 6 months before I start looking like a skunk with the white stripe on my head. Total for the year -- $6-$12

DD use to have long hair, but we cut it short in September. Her hair grows fast and grows out more than down, so it's a bit shaggy... but she seems to like it, so, we will wait and see. I'd like for her hair to grow out. Too many people call her a -him-. Total for the year -- $7

The Old Man use to get his hair buzzed every 2 weeks... at $14 a pop. I told him I'd do it for $10 (borrowed a friends clippers - buzzed him... he liked it... used the $10 to buy our own clippers ) I've been doing it at home for him the last 5 years. Total for the year -- $0
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!
