Do you have unclaimed money out there?
I live in NC, and I check the state treasurer's website every few months to see if I have any unclaimed money. Well, recently my name popped up on the list!!! Yipppeee!!!! It was a refund from a car insurance company from several years ago. I filled out the paperwork this week. Now, I just have to wait for the check! I also did searches on other friends and family. I found some unclaimed money for a couple of them, too!
If you live in NC, here is the link....
http://www.nctreasurer.com/Dsthome/A...rty/Search.htm
**One suggestion about this search...I found that it was best to first search by putting the last name and first name in the search fields. If there is no match, then just search through all the listings for your last name (don't put a first name in the search). I did find one person that way because the information was evidently not entered correctly in the correct fields, and the last name and first name came up in the last name field only.
**Also, be sure to check it every once in a while as it is updated often.
I'm sure that other states offer this sort of thing, too. If you know of a link for your state's unclaimed money, please post it.

Here's a list for all states from The Dollar Stretcher website
http://www.stretcher.com/stories/990614a.cfm“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Also.....
By the way, this is free. Actually, when someone owes you money and they can't find you or you don't cash the check they keep sending you (which was what happened in my case), then they are required by law to turn the money over to the state, and the state holds the money until the rightful owner claims it.
For fun, I took the initiative to look up Indiana's state treasurer website. Indeed, there is a link on there for unclaimed money. Here it is for indiana:
https://secure.in.gov/apps/ag/ucp/index.html
**This matches the one in the list from the link to the Dollar Stretcher mentioned above. (Thanks, starsapphire!) But if for some reason, that list doesn't have the correct web address for your state, then just type in your internet search engine "Indiana State Treasurer" for example. Then look around on the state treasurer's home page for the link for unclaimed money.
Now, in my case, I had to print out a form, then get it notarized (public notary I knew did it for free for me), then I had to prove that the address associated with it was truly a previous address (I sent a copy of an old driver's license) and my state also wanted a copy of something with my SSN (I sent a copy of my SSN card).
***I also want to remind everyone that if you ever lived in another state, then you should also check that state's unclaimed money link from time to time, too!!! You never know!
***For you people that say you are never that lucky, I will say that I have been checking that website for 2 years or more and suddenly my name appeared. So keep checking every few months. I would say at least check it twice a year.

Yup, I found almost $200 for my grandparents almost a year ago. It was an insurance claim from almost two decades ago!

I did this a couple of years ago and found a paycheck from when I was 17 that I never received. Also my hubby had one from our gas company. They said we never paid the bill (which we did TWICE) hence we got the $. Had to fill out a couple of forms and get a drivers license copied and in a couple of weeks got our money. We ended up getting about $75 total.

Me and my husband had money coming to us from a closed escrow account. All we had to do was show proof of the address that we lived at. We copied our old driver licenses and sent it in. There was nothing that we had to pay to get our money . It was listed on the State of CA website and everything we needed could be downloaded from the website.

No, it is free
As I said above, it is free. I have found money for others in the past, and they got their money. I only recently found my own name. I mailed off the info on Thursday and will update you all when I get the check.
**Now for a warning! Go to your state's treasurer website ONLY!!! Do not go to a website that charges you for this service. Your state treasurer WANTS you to claim it, and they will not charge you a fee.
