Unhappy When will the price increases stop???

I just checked the grain prices at the food co-op (for lack of a better term...it's grains/oats).

I'm about to faint!!! I was getting a 50 lb bag of wheat for $22 and then grinding it myself (more nutrition).

I need to get some more and the price went WAY UP!! It's now $35/50lbs!!!! That's a $13 increase!!! I just got a bag 3 months back!! How could it change THAT much?!?!

Is it going to get to the point that you can't even scratch cook/bake to stretch your grocery $$??

Prices will quit going up when the government quits adding more money to the economy, which just drives up the prices. Resources are just as limited, but there is more money, so prices go up. Like that stimulus package they have coming out...more money, higher prices.

I'm not so frugal grocery wise so i'm still able too see savings by changing my way of thinking.

We used to be able to eat really well without a care in the world for $300 a month and now we're spending almost $360 and hurting for food. I'm still in shock that eggs went over $2 a dozen.

I was shocked this weekend when I shopped. I buy basically the same stuff each week but I spent a whole lot more for the same exact groceries! It really does stink!

I was at the supermarket and at the checkout the cashier said to me "Did you notice that we lowered the prices on many of our products?" I said "No, the whole time I was thinking 'Wow! Prices have gone up!'" Two new grocery stores went in and so they are trying to keep people, but let's face it, prices have gone up and being 10 cents cheaper than last week when prices have gone up 50 cents over the past month didn't get their point across.

With a new year all the whole salers have increased their prices so in the end it trickles on down and we end up with higher prices.

Wish i could find whole grains around here in bulk and a grain mill ( hand crank preferable or with adjustable from crack to fine flour). I know our Local Health food store USED to supply grains but they had to order them in and you had to buy the whole lot and it was EXPENSIVE.

Ok, I just got back from Costco... I can't even count how many items went UP in price in the last 6 weeks!!!! A 15 pack of mac'n'cheese just went up a full dollar...the 20 lb bag of pintos went up over a $1...the case of shakes we always buy (Dh likes them for lunches at work/school) went up $2!!!! The list goes on and on!!

I guess it'll just get worse before it gets better...

I read somewhere this week that food prices would continue to rise and the wholesalers weren't guarantee their prices for more that 3 weeks at a time, so I figure everything will be going up every 3 weeks.

Our new channel said this week that food prices were expected to rise another 25%over the next 3 months.

I don't think this is going to change anytime soon...its' going to get worse.

I also can't guarantee ANYTHING I've read on the net or heard on the news!!!! LOL!!!!

Guess we'd all better really consider stocking up on those stockpiles now, before it gets worse. I have seen the price increase mostly in staples lately. Unfortunately for those of us who do a great deal of scratch cooking.

I used to be able to feed a family of 4 plus 2 dogs for $600 a month. In fact, that amount included the occasional steak and seafood meals. Let me just say that I haven't seen a steak on my plate in over 2 months and I had to increase our monthly food budget to $800 a month. I can't believe how much everything costs. I actually had to tell my kids that they have to ration the milk because we can't afford to be buying 4 gallons a week anymore. I hate to do that because they are growing kids and need the calcium but my pocketbook won't cover the cost anymore. I feel like a kitchen policeman! We haven't eaten out in over a month, not even fast food becasue I simply don't have any cash. Don't even get me started on the gas prices!

Oh well, I guess all we can do is tighten the purse strings a little more and hope that it doesn't break completely!!! Good luck to us all!!!

lovestolaugh, save you milk cartons when they are empty this week. Next time you buy milk start watering it down. I'm not sure the amounts to make 2% etc but 1/3 water and 2/3 milk will stretch it and shouldn't affect the flavor too much. Of course mix it when the kiddos are not around
