Shaved a few $$ off my phone bill!
I am always on the fence of keeping my land line phone as I have a cell with excellent reception at the house. But I keep it, just in case of emergencies! I had limited long distance with a provider listed. However, I use a calling card for long distance and figured do not need long distance really. So trying, to shave a few $$ off, called phone company and explained: I am trying to save a few $$$ losing my job soon, blah blah blah. The rep was very nice and said will change the service to no long distance provider, shaving $2 a month off and gave me $10 "good customer" credit. Does not hurt to ask!

Congrats!
Never hurts to see about getting cheaper pricing. Every little bit adds up.

I should totally give up my land line...but I live 50 miles from Ground Zero. Seriously, THAT'S the only reason I keep it, for the very small chance that we will lose cell service. I need to get over it and save the $$$.

That was nice of them. My phone co not so nice. I had not elected a long distant carrier for several years and paid nothing for one. Then, suddenly, there was Verizon's addition of their own carrier on my monthly bill but they were not charging me monthly to have it in case I wanted to use it (5c a minute plan) so I let it be. Then recently I noticed they DID start to charge me a dollar a month for it (the sneaks!). I had so much trouble a few months ago straightening out my bill I hate to be calling them again to cancel this $1 monthly fee. But it really bothers me that they did it so sneaky-like and thought I would not notice. If they start to charge more than a dollar for it I will be calling them again, though.
