    Default Does anyone have Directv?

I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to cable. I don't need a whole lot of channels, but we do like the History Channel & HGTV. Right now we have expanded cable thru our cable co... with the telephone & internet bundled in.

I'm considering Directv, I'm looking up prices and comparing. Has anyone dealt with them? They've sent me an offer of 1 year at $29.99 with more channels than I need, but I have to see what the price increases to after that.

    Thanks for any input!

I've used them for about six years now and love them. For me, it's cheaper to have them for my tv and comcast for my cable than to have the comcast bundle.

I actually just today signed up with them. They install on Wed. I"ve had Dish Network for the last 2 years and found that Directv is just so much cheaper! I get more channels for less money. Can't beat that!

Please just becareful...I had them and didn't want the dish attached to my roof, paid the guy 74 dollars to set the post for the dishes. Yeah he set it like seriously 8 inches in the ground with probably 3 cups cement. Naturally the thing fell over after awhile (probably like 4 months)I called to see about getting it fixed...they proceeded to tell me I would have to pay to get a service tech out there some outrageous fee. I said Ummm Noooo your guy installed the pole and didn't do it properly..she proceeded to tell me how I could fix it. Ok I don't know about aligning a satelite pfft. Finally I got hateful and told her that every month I was making my bill I was paying her salary and I would change companies if someone didn't get out here and fix it...before all was said and done it was fixed , I had 10 dollars knocked off my bill for 6 months and I still went with Dish..Customer service is a huge big deal for me, if you aren't going to stand behind your product I won't spending my money there.

We have had them around 10 years. We started out with the huge box and have upgraded to the smaller boxes. I have never had bad customer service with them. Like Paula, we probably have more channels then we need. We also have it connected to 3 tvs.

Here is a hint, a while back a customer service rep told us to call every few months to ask if they had any specials to offer. About 6 months ago, we ended up with 6 months free of Showtime and HBO channels just for asking. That reminds me that I need to call again and ask. :-)

We get Direct TV, Verizon home phone service and High-speed DSL for about $100/month. I totally agree that you should call every six months to ask for specials, offers, or just to lower your bill. It has never failed to me to atleast save ten bucks a month if I ask.

Right now we're on Suddenlink cable, phone & internet. I bundled all the services about 3 weeks ago and it's been nothing but trouble (it feels like we're on dial up again). The internet and cable worked fine until I had the phone service added to the package. We may look into the Direct TV system. It just seems like the technicians in this area can't get the systems to work together. Why advertise a bundle package if the 3 systems can't work together (there is a modem on the phone system and a modem on the internet system)? From what the technician said the phone modem was overpowering the internet modem. What a mess. No problems with the phone yet (just mostly the internet).

Just make sure you can get your local channels either from Direct TV or with an antenna. We can't here and we got waivers from ABC, PBS, CW, and CBS. We don't have FOX or NBC. I haven't really missed 'em. It's their loss IMO.

We've had Directv for about 6 years now, and couldn't be happier with them. I've never had any customer service issues with them either. We have a mid-tier package (had to have Speed channel for my NASCAR fix-lol), and it's costing almost $30 less for similar package through the cable company. Good luck with your decision!!

I'm very interested in what everyone has to say, as comcast has gotten out of control here. They talked us into a package, unlimited long distance, cable with hbo and cinemax, and internet, ok, ready for this, it is now up to 180.00 a month, we called to cancel the pay channels, and were told if we do that we're out of a package and it will cost us more. So we're looking into Dish TV, all our neighbors will this company, anything must be cheaper than comcast. Does anyone have Dish TV? And if so, how do you like it?

I would prefer Dish Network over Driecttv. We have has both. With Driect we had no local channels. We were told that is want local channels that we would have to get another dish just for that. Plus the reception with driect was very poor during storms. Only time that we really got good reception was on sunny to partly souldy skys.We have had Dish now for 3 or 4 years now. We have no problems with them. We get local channels without 2 dishes. Also we very seldom get bad reception during bad weather. Now since that we have just had a mild ice storm here is the only time we have had any type of disruption. That was only tonight for a few hours. And the strom came through on Monday. Only reason that we are having somewhat of a little problem is that a limb full of ice is in front of it. But Still getting enough singal though somehow. But I love the channels that we get. Get way more than cable. Plus a lot cheeper than cable. We have no home phone. So there for no internet connection. If i want to get on the internet I just take my laptop to work with me where it is free wireless internet. So Saving money in the long run.

    Default I have DirecTV

I've had DirecTV for a couple of months now, and I do have comcast phone and internet service. I negotiated with comcast for a deal on only two services, and was able to get them for about $54/mo for both. I like DirecTV's service so far, no problems, more channels (Local too), and way cheaper than cable.

We also have direct tv and get the local channels, no extra dish. We had dish network but the service was lousy and any wind we would loose service. We also get the sport package, so soccer 24/7 and even a tennis channel. Now that they have more hd channels we will probably get a hd recorder.
