Pizza Will Soon Cost $40!!!
Dh and I were watching our local evening news and almost fell out of our seats when the newscaster said the pizza we typically have delivered, is expected to cost nearly $40 within the next 6 months. They interviewed several pizza shop owners who confirmed this. They said the prices will be gradually raised to this expected amount to the rise in food costs and gasoline. Dh travels for his job and often orders pizza to be delivered to his hotel room. There will be no more pizza for him! I typically don't make pizza at home, but I will now! This confirms the situation we are in is dire, and we'd all better take steps to safeguard ourselves.

I had a bargain store find of 5 loaves of frozen bread dough for $3. I'm saving it for home made pizzas.

~Wow am I glad I make my own at home. We have pizza every Friday and I can still make 2, 12 inch cheese pizzas for $3. If I stop finding $2lb mozzerrella, $1 jar sauce and $.30lb flour, our cost may go up. Still nowhere near $40 though!~

O.k. it might, but everyone uses coupons. If you use a coupon it is not that bad. You can get two larges for $20 and if you are willing to pick them up you can get two meds for $10.99.
I work for a pizza place and it still shocks me when I see people pay $20 for one pizza(that pizza is fully loaded to).
Our prices are going up just like everywhere else. A box of 15 pound cheese is close to $40 and that to me is outragous. The most expentive items are cheese, chicken, sauce, and bacon.Katy

Now I want pizza for supper tonight.
Shocking that it will be that high! Wonder what their current prices are since we can vary so much from city to city & state to state? Here a large/extra large pizza with 2 or 3 toppings costs $12 to $20 depending on restaurant & the coupon or deal they are running. Can't imagine I'll buy too many $40 pizzas. Hope the media isn't crying wolf just to get our attention.
May Groceries $238/250 Pet Supplies $111/125
Coupons $50.08
April Groceries $253/250 Pet Supplies $109/125
Coupons $34
Coupon Saving 2012 $165.61
2011 $376.25

The media does tend to do that.
I'm not sure it will reach that high... but, it might. The markup on pizza is high anyway. I recall back in college when I worked at a pizza place we had about $1 in cost (ingredients only) on a large supreme pizza which at that time also sold for $15.
I know basic costs are increasing. As for flour and wheat products, we're finally starting to feel some of the effects of the worldwide wheat shortage that has been going on for about 2 years.

that is just horrible!
we usually have a once a month "special" (using a coupon only of course) where we make a night of pizza, movies and games. sometimes we skip a month, but it's our way of making sure we have at least one "free" fun day.
but 40$!!! well i'll tell you what!
but i make hm pizza and they like that too. it's different each time and they don't mind i only make a veggie pizza. (they don't like the "store bought" pepperoni & won't eat any other meat on it! LOL)
but i think that will give the little pizza shops a better service.
there's a little store, not great, but not bad either, that's near us that 1 pizza costs like 8$.
I've not eaten there, but hear from family/friends it's "just ok."
They'll eat it if they have to, but prefer the big chain pizza.
looks like this little pizza joint may just be getting our "once a month" business!

Honestly, I think people will pay it. The price increase will be gradual, so that lessens the shock value. We're paying $3/gal for gas and oil. Grocery costs will be rising as well.

Okay, I just did some looking around for some info on the high wheat prices and I'm a little disgusted. It seems that the high price has a whole lot to do with commodities trading and that because of the wheat shortage investors have taken to purchasing wheat futures, causing the price to reach record highs. It seems to have very little to do with our (USA)actual supply. They are betting that because there is not enough wheat in the mid-east and other areas that our wheat will be in higher demand, therefore making them more money. Ughhh. The same goes for many other commodities right now.
