you wont belive what people at my job r saying
that the more u make the more u spend. wth

i really hate when people talk like that.. i save and put my self thru 2 yrs of school w/ no loans and now make more than double my old wage..
i think i can pay off my debts and save.. i plan on living on 1/3 to 1/2 of my wages and pay debts with the rest.. i have girls who make a lot less than me who buy lunch every day.. but my one bright spot is a lady in one of the offices. i love her to death..i feel like i have all of u with me..
we both bring our lunch everyday and snacks... bring a bottle of water to refill(have a huge dispenser) and use crystal lite type flavorings..
she is the one who told me they order everyday and make less..

Well that is generally true for most people. And honestly we spend more now than we did when we got right out of college..we live in a nicer house..ect...
There is nothing wrong with it as long as you are living within your means...however the problem lies with those who spend MORE than what they make no matter how much they make!!

An old friend had an expression... expenses rise to meet income. For most, it is generally true.
For myself, I found a budget I could live with (above poverty but not all the frills) and regardless of wage increases, I lived within that budget. Of course, cost of living, inflation and such has meant resetting that budget over the years.
Good luck to you!

I don't care what others send their paychecks on. But if they chose to blow it , don't ask me for money to pay the rent.
My bil had a 600.00 cable bill and it got shut off for non-payment. It got that high because he was ordering a ppv movie every night. IF he asked me for money my answer would have been "NO, my husband didn't work hard so he could support your porno habit"

I agree with everyone else. The people I work with are like that also. I just cant imagine how some people manage with the amount of $$$ they waste

When I finally started making more I started spending more too. I bought a new car (old one was not worth fixing). Once I moved out I became a saver though. I splurge very now and then but definatly don't blow my paycheck on meaningless i tems.

I think often when people make more they do spend more thoughtlessly. But it doesn't have to be that way, you are proof!
We are in a season where we are trying to spend very little and are doing pretty well at it, it just has to be an intentional effort.

I do spend what I earn adjusting when I need to. I don't splurge on myself but I do like spending on my kids.
I'm trying to get into the habit of living below my means so I can put more into savings.
I just got out of the habit of ordering take out and eating out and my kids agree that we enjoy eating good food at home. 1 take out meal equals about 3 delicious meals that we enjoy at home.

people are always going to say stupid things and find all kinds of cute little sayings to justify whatever they want to do.
I don't worry about that or them... I did my own thing and retired at 47 in comfort, at that time having had my house paid off for 11 years.
stop listening or responding to what people say... ignore them and do whats right for you.
a long time friend of mine used to try to teach me her ways, I guess because she was older, she thought she knew better........ she is over 60 now and still working with no retirement in sight....Last edited by M55FF; 02-27-2008 at 03:17 AM.

We do make more now that we ever have before and because we have 4 children it seems like we have to spend more. We have a plan to save and pay off debt but something always comes up, like doctors appointment or meds.

People will say that wherever you go...what jumped out to me most was this comment:
"she is the one who told me they order everyday and make less..:loop"
I find it highly inappropriate to discuss other people's wages. The only people who need to know what they make are themselves, their boss, and HR. Other than that, I think it's rude to talk about it.McD

We used to be that way. When I worked outside of the home we actually had less money even though we made more. I think it's real easy to let it get away from you and much harder to have your money stay in your hands. I wouldn't let it get you upset. Just know that you are taking care of your family in the best way you can. Don't worry about the Jones'.

I often hear the same sentiment. I think its true to a point...as in...we make diddly now and can barely cover bills, so when DH graduates and makes a bit more we WILL initially spend more...to stock the pantry, to catch up debt, to fix the car exhaust that weve been living with for 6 months broken, to buy some new sheets, to go to the much needed dentist...etc. But after those initial expenses, we will settle into a budget of way below our means.
But people that spend each raise on big screens, new car payments, and all the keeping up with the Joneses junk are losing before they start, and perpetuating a cycle of earn to spend to earn to spend more."That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

We are older we do make more and we do spend more. When the girls were babies we lived pretty close to the bone. I am happy that those days are over.
Part of being frugal is to have the financial freedom to do what we would like to do.
