What do you know that is interesting but true?
What do you know that is interesting but true? Little tidbits that seem amazing, but that are true!!
Truck drivers are always looking for places to dump pallets worth of goods so that they can pick up a new load. It is a high annoyance to try and find a place to dump it. They do not want to pay to put it in the dump. Some times the company stipulates that it must be donated making it even harder to get rid of.
Truck stops are always having truckers try and dump goods in their trash cans. I used to work at a truck stop they were constantly dumping items. If you live close to a big city or distrubution center it may be a good thing to get a CB and cruise the stations listening for truckers wanting to get rid of goods.
Even if you can't use all of it i would bet that you know of cherities, churches, food banks, or poor people who could use the items.

That's interesting, but I don't understand why they have goods they need to dump? Did they not deliver them to their intended destination?

sometimes destination drops will refuse some or part of a truckers load. Especially produce. Leaving the trucker stuck with it.

My DS used to work for national truck washing company, and you wouldn't believe what he would come home with. We've gotten everything from 4 cases of brandname cookies, brandname cheesecakes, muffins, gloves, hats to whatever else you can think of. When they get the trailers washed, they have to get rid of load. I'm not sure how or why they had the leftovers, but we sure enjoyed it.

I was explained by a trucker that sometimes when they are packing the truck they screw up and put to many pallets of an item on the truck. The place whos getting the items will only take what is on their sheet. The original company who sent the stock will not take back the freight or pay for it to come back to their warehouse. There for the extras the truckers are stuck with and have to get rid of in order to pick up more freight.

We get a truck at work twice a week and since we are the last stop on his route if they put extra stuff in there he will offer it to us.

My dad was a trucker for 40 years. You would not believe the stuff he would bring home.
One time my mom had to meat him in a town about 60 miles from home as he was passing through and needed to get rid of a whole pallet of frozen corn. 36 boxes with each box having 12 bags in it.
She gave it away to everyone she could think of.
Huge cans of black beans. She gave alot away to the soup kitchen. I took them and opened them up and put them into 2 cup bags and froze them.
20 cases of spaghetti noodles. Everyone got a case of them for Christmas one year.
My dad would keep what he could fit into the cab of the truck and try and give away what he did not want.
Lots of time he would high laborers to help unload the trucks and what was extra he would give them to take home.Debra

My dad is a trucker for a chicken company. They also have other things, but we have gotten chicken nuggets, hot wings, hot dogs, bacon, a ham, (the type you slice for deli meat) Frozen meals, it is awesome when he gets to bring home stuff. Most of the time he only brings home damaged cases that they refuse. And when I say he has brought stuff home, it was 40lbs of bacon, 10lbs of hotdogs, 4 large bags of hot wings, 4 bags of chicken nuggets. Fills my freezer up so I don't complain at all. Free is a wonderful thing.

I was at the grocery store one day and as I was leaving one of the delivery truck guys came over and gave us some frozen dinners. They were about out of date so the store refused them and he couldn't take them back. I guess he felt sorry for me. There I was with 2 small children..one in the buggy and one on my hip. I had my hands full. LOL It was really sweet of him. We were having a pretty rough time at the time so it helped.

baronmom~ Lucky woman ... thats why a big freezer always comes in handy ... you don't know what you may happen upon !!
Maybe we should all put down where we are for all these truckers so they could have a place to drop off quantities of items across the US to make their and our lives easier.
I know if someone dropped off a Ton of an item here i could get them distributed to food banks, church groups, and poorer people in my area.
