Yet another increasing groceries post
Sorry, but I had to share. the little graphs on the left side are pretty eye opening. Although we aren't paying nearly that much for ground beef at the commissary (it's $1.29/lb), I don't know why it's so high elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing. I just stopped at the store on my way home from my Algebra class. Went in for milk because we were almost out, thought I would get some more bananas. At this same store I bought bananas last week for 29 cents per pound, tonight they were 65 cents per pound.

Thank you for the article. I think it really explains what we have all been noticing at the grocery store recently.
I had to explain to the fiance that it wasn't the whole grain bread and Smart pasta we bought this week that increased our grocery bill so much, but the fact that prices on everything we buy are much higher than last year. I even got out last year's price list to prove that: eggs, tp, milk, cheese, etc...had gone up by a lot in the last year.
I will continue to buy the whole grain bread instead of the white beacause it's healthier than the $1 package of white that neither one of us enjoys eating. However, we only use it when we make soup and sandwiches once a week, so I am going to freeze half of the loaf. That way we only buy 2 loaves a month and none of the expensive bread goes to waste.

I'm waiting for Costco to raise the price of their rotessiere chickens and pizza.
They have not changed in a few years.
I'm going to try growing 2 or 3 tomato plants this summer...
fruits and veggies are too high.
gosh, not sure if I want to get into veggie gardening again, takes
up so much time and watering everyday really runs the water bill up

Hopefully we all have better years ahead where water is just plentiful enough to have good crops and not floods.
Flooding after the droughts we have been having would cause all sorts of soil errosion.

The sad part, I live in SOuth Jersey and all of the prices listed in the article are lower than what I have to pay.
Bread appx. 2.39 (Stroehman)
Eggs 2.99
Apples 1.49 lb
ground beef is around 2.89 lb for the 80%
Milk was 4.39 the other day
Whole Chickens are about 1.59 (sometimes they go on sale for between .99-1.19 lb)
It is getting so hard to stay within the budget that I have set. I do try to get to BJ's once in awhile because their meats, milk, and eggs are usually cheaper and better quality than I can get locally but it is out of my way so I only go when I can load up or its not worth the gas.Mom to:

Yeah, thats pretty much close to what we're paying here. Except the bread is more expensive. A loaf of no-name bread from our regular store just went up to $1.79!! I'm not sure about the milk because we measure in litres, but something tells me its more. We pay about $1 a litre.

Wow, I can't believe the prices on there! Ours are never that high. Especially the $4 a loaf of bread example. Our store brand is $1 most weeks, and $1.19 at the highest, the name brand is $2-$2.75...God bless the commissary with the !1.29/lb hamburger....Wow!

I'm not sure if they are averaging prices from around the country or not, but here is a general idea of prices around here:
White Bread $2.49/on sale $1.00
Whole Milk $3.89/on sale $2.78
Apples (red delicious) $1.59lb/on sale .99
Ground Chuck $3.29lb/on sale $1.89
eggs (white) $1.99 dozen
eggs (brown) $3.20 dozen
I don't buy butter and I rarely use flour, so I have no idea what the prices are for those items.
All I do know is the cost of everything keeps going up a whole lot faster than income."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

I had eyed a box of lasagna noodles at the store. I passed them up since I thought I could make them. Which I can. Plus I have all the ingredients. That is pretty much how I have started thinking when grocery shopping. Never used to be like that.
