Red face Quitting my job after 9 yrs and need to get back to frugal living

Wow! After 9 years I'm finally quitting my awful job, but of course this is a big step and with the relief there is also alot of fear. My doctor and my family both feel that the stress and frustration is becoming really unhealthy, so tommorow I will go in and give my notice. I'm really not sure what I'll do next. I enjoy working and wouldn't mind doing something else, but I'm not sure what. For now, definately need to take a small rest and also need to really get back to living very frugally. I wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation, if so your advice, and support would be greatly appreciated.

First Congrats! I am sure you do feel relief...I would be so relieved if I could quit. My body is getting resistant to all these years of physical work!

Take the tiime you need to recoup and then if you want to work somewhere thats no stress part time, I say go for it! (if you can financially do it of course)
Like plants? Go to Lowes or HD and work a day or two a week in the garden center...Like Kids? go to a preschool...etc.

Its great that you have this opportunity to destress and re-evaluate your plans! View it as a blessing!

I made a similar decision and left a very good paying job because the stress was killing me... literally. It was a tough decision but one my family fully supported. We all just tightened our belts and cut out a lot of extras. My daughters told me that it was one of the best things I did. They'd rather have me feeling well and energetic than more money.

We had to do a lot of looking at our budget to make it work. We cut so many extras, I don't even know where to start!

I quit working when my youngest was born in August 2007. I have been working since I was 14 years old and am now 35. I wasn't sure if I was going to go back after he was born, but my boss called and said I was being layed off about a month before I was due to go back. So he kind of made the decision for me I made sure we paid down most of our debt and refinanced our home before I went on maternity leave just in case I didn't go back. It's been tight, but we have made it work.

Yes, I became really disillusioned from the whole corporate thing. And it was making me sick. Whole other story. Anyway, one of the places I worked at after not being in a business setting was PetSmart. While not paying as much, I actually enjoyed it. One of the job requirements was that you had to talk to the animals when they came in or near you. Seriously, you were supposed to greet the animals. Being an animal person myself, heck not to bad of a job requirement. Yes, it got stressfull sometimes as far as being busy but being around the animals I think really does make the work a lot easier.

Only suggestion I can think of is take a breather. Then think of things that really make you happy even way back when you were little. If you think of getting back in the job market maybe this will help you figure out what you might want to do. I think it is great you realized the work was to stressful in time to do something about it. Also that you are able to stop working.

Most states have changed their horrible unemployment offices to wonderfully helpful WorkSource centers. Everything is free.

They have software on computers you can use there for free to help you learn what you would like to do and what you would be good at doing. You get a report to print out.

Then you take the print out to a free counselor and discuss your local options. Our WorkSource counselors know our area's demographics even better than the counselors at our local Economic Development Center.

    Good luck!

Sounds like you're making the right decision for your health and well-being. I'm sure you'll feel like a terrible load has been lifted off of you. With a little belt-tightening, it'll all be worthwhile.

I'm happy for you, and it will be good for you to destress before deciding what you want to do next. Every now and then I get to thinking how nice it would be to quit my job and focus more on saving the money my fiance earns through school. It's not in the cards yet, but hopefully in the next few years.
