UGH...
IDK if I'm posting this in the right place, please forgive me if I didn't.
I am so sick of credit card companies. I just recently paid off one of my smaller cards so I could get rid of it. I had 5 credit cards, 3 major and 2 store. Out of those 5 I am planning on canceling 2 of those cards both major. Next year or the year after, all depending on where I'm at with my bills. My DBF and I want to have kids, but I want to be a SAHM. I can't do that with all of my bills. DBF can support myself and a baby with the rent, utilities, food, and etc. But not my bills so before we decide to try I really want to have everything paid off so I don't have to worry.
Well my rant is I went to call the credit card company that I wanted to cancel and Immediately he's trying to talk me out of canceling it. It took me 10 times of saying I just want to cancel it. Finally on my last nerve I said look I want to have a baby soon, I want to be a SAHM and I can't do that with all these credit cards. I said I just want to cancel it. Finally that got him stop asking me and let me cancel the darn thing. This has happened to me before in the past with previous credit cards I had. It just bothers me that no matter how many times you say you want to cancel it they don't listen to you.
The credit card only had a $500 limit. I really don't need it. My 2 other major cards have a higher limit then that. The one left that I want to cancel has a $1,500 limit and the one I want to keep that is with my bank is $3,400. I really don't need to keep a $500 card. Plus I have a Wal-mart card that is $750 and a Sunoco gas card for $750. I think that is enough to have at once. Now mind you my Wal-mart and Sunoco card aren't maxed out. I will be able to pay them off once I get that $600 tax check that Bush approved for everyone. We depend on my Sunoco Card for when we are short on cash and need gas. I love Wal-mart and I don't plan on using it much once it's paid off, but do have a decent interest on it that if I need to use it I can. And I need to have one major card for emergencies and whatever else I may need that would require one.
I'm just glad that I'm finally getting back into control with my finances and I have another card that I don't have to worry about. 1 down 4 more to go. 1 more to go for good.

I have run across the same thing when trying to cancel cards.
Just be persisitant and tell them you don't want it...
then cut it up and throw it away so you'll never be tempted to use it.
I have only one card I use now and I only use it for emergency or the rare online purchase.
keeping OUT OF DEBT is the single best thing you can do to live a comfy life.

I wish you luck on getting the cards paid off. I only have two CC that I owe $ on. One will be paid down to $0 in June '08 and the other one I am determined to pay down to $0 by June '09 - debt free one year ahead of schedule, but one year later than I had hoped a few years ago.

I am sick of credit card companies that constantly send "pre-approved" junk in the mail. If I wanted your darn card, I'd apply for it personally...stop wasting paper!!!
I feel your pain, whenever we have cancelled accounts in the past they always try to keep you as a customer."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

It just annoys me so much. I still remember when I was first trying to get out of debt I was calling to cancel all of my cards that I didn't need. And one of them asked me what they could do to keep me. I said lower my interest and maybe I'll stay and they said they were sorry they couldn't do that, and I said well I'm sorry I can't keep you, now cancel my account. That was to Dell when I had applied for there credit for a computer. Never again will I deal with them. There interest is insane.
I just can't wait to get more paid off and then it will be almost over. I can't wait till I get my loan paid off the most.

yeah I know but they are sales people and its their job to convince you to keep and use the card.
try not to be so mad at them... they need jobs too, the people who work there.
just tell them:
I don't want the card, so what do I do to cancel... get their name, note the date and time you spoke to them...
If they make you mad, you should have seen some of the guys I dated before I was married... pushy lil buggers.

Yes those credit card companies are persistant you just have to be MORE persistant. As soon as you close one CC you will get five more offers too.

That doesn't make any sense. When I was younger and got my self in to MAJOR debt once I paid them off I canceled them right away. It didn't effect my credit score at all. It actually helped it. Also I don't see what car insurance has anything to do with your Credit Score. Plus I already have a car insurance plan I don't see that going up because I canceled a credit card.

Stay persistent. I think you did
a great job of getting the card canceled.
I had to deal with a Verizon rep the
same way when we switched over to
digital. Finally I just had to insult him
to get him to cancel my service." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."
