    Default Dh's wake-up call

Dh went with me to Price Chopper...where we ONLY bought loss leaders and things that were on sale & I had a coupon for. We spent $43 and we were able to carry the bags out in our hands. We had four plastic grocery bags and one bag had one item in it. Before sales & coupons the total was $58!!

Every single thing we got was on sale, a few things were on sale and we had a coupon for. I was at the bread prices. Sale price was $1.50 for the cheapest white bread. The good bread was well over $3 for a small loaf.

Dh was astonished all through the store. He even said, it's going to get to the point where people aren't going to be able to afford to eat. It was a real eye opener for him. I have been telling him things have been increasing, but I think he just tunes me out. I need to take him shopping more often lol.

Thank goodness I don't shop there for every day things. Tomorrow I'm going to the commissary for the other few things I need.

My DH does a fair amount of the shopping on his own and goes through all the flyers so he's aware. But it's laughable the sticker shock DS gets!

I hear you loud and clear! My husband just shakes his head when I come home from the store and make him look at the receipt. I've changed the way we eat to try to cut down on our grocery bill and it still doesn't seem to make a difference. When I'm off work this summer I'm going to try to come up with a menu plan to follow using seasonal produce. I also want recipes that I can adjust using ingredients that are on sale.

Making bread from scratch (by hand) is SO inexpensive... I can't wait to get back to it!! (Waiting for foot to heal).

Groceries are definitely CRAZY!!! It's good that your Dh is more aware of it now! Don't ya just wish Dh's would listen?

You took your husband shopping with you and you only spent $43??? I want to know your secret.

How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Well, without him I probably would have spent $23. He added 2 boxes of ice cream sandwiches, 3 chocolate bars, and 2 pkgs of cookies Granted they were all on sale, ice cream BOGO, chocolate 3/99c and cookies 10/$10 but still

I took mine with me a few weeks ago and he was astounded at a few things himself.

    Exclamation

It's just unbelieveable what the prices are.
No matter how cost conscience you try to be
or use the coupons, shop only sales it's still
    a lot.

My husband goes shopping with me often and
he just shakes his head. Certain things we use
to purchase we just walk right by.
