Enough Already!
Warning -- the following post contains a

I've been doing the best to keep us afloat---
DD needs new navy blue tights and socks from school -- the tights I may be able to get at Kmart... but no one around seems to carry navy socks... except the uniform store who wants $6 a pair!
I just got a demand letter from the town for my excise tax $150 is due by 4/25 -- I never got the original bill, and of course we don't have the money to pay it off because the Old Man got paid Friday... whatever we have left has to last until next payday... fat chance since keeping gas in the car is an uphill battle ... and won't get paid again until 4/25!!
Lets not forget I still haven't paid the car payment... that was suppose to come out of the next paycheck *sigh*
I went back to work -- but ended up in the hospital for 3 days, now I can't go back to work because I have to schedule surgery... and can't work for a month after (upside, there is a high turnover where I worked, and the manager said to call her when I can return to work)
The Old Man got yet a different job -- He now works 4 days a week, but crams a heck of a lot of hours in... he starts at 7am, and was told he will be lucky if he gets home by 8pm, but to tell the 'little woman' not to accuse him of cheating if he isn't home before 10. (Upside, overtime is $21/hr -- downside, he can be working as high as 60 feet up and he is deathly afraid of getting on a ladder from a roof :surprise:... not keen on being on a ladder that high, but prefers being ON it over trying to get BACK ON)
Did I mention he has to buy a portable GPS as part of his 'tools' ... thats another $200 easy!
I love him so much... he said "I gotta do what I gotta do for my family, there isn't a ladder in the world that can keep me from providing for you both"
(thank you for indulging my little side tribute to him)
I bought DD's school uniforms big enough that she can wear them again next year... the shirts are a tad faded, but nothing a box of yellow dye can't fix
I even bought an extra set of gym uniforms at the church thrift store for $1 each piece (beats the original prices of $10-25 each). -- THEN the school sends an announcement home that they will no longer be selling the gym uniforms at the school, and they have a limited supply left. I did put an order in for a new tshirt, sweatshirt, short and 2 sweatpants. (DD is rough on them, I have had to sew her current pairs so many times, I am embarrassed to send her in them). If everything I ordered is available, thats an additional $30... but a heck of a lot less than what the uniform company will charge us!
I was able to find a good price on fish ($3.99/lb down from $5.99) I found all the mark-downs that day and created a great menu with my finds -- then I realized the Old Man has no access to a microwave at work since he is on the road and I have to come up with creative cold-store/cold-consumption ideas. He is gone 12+ hours... I get up at 5am to make his breakfast, but lunch and dinner is on the road.
I can handle whatever is thrown at me... even if I cry the whole way through it... but... ENOUGH ALREADY!Last edited by Lady_V; 04-13-2008 at 10:03 PM.

Without doubt, everything becomes history at some point... I just want to be in the winners column when it's over
Thanks! Target is a few towns over, but I may be able to swing the gas to get there... hopefully they have the ankle socks too!
If all fails, I will get a cheapo bag of white ankle socks and dye them navy
... this is getting more bizzare at every turn!

That's a lot to carry on one pair of shoulders

If you can't find the socks up there, PM me. We have TONS of stores here that carry navy knee socks

Good luck on your sock quest! Your DH sounds like a real sweetheart too.

First of all your dh is a good man, and thats a lot to be great full for.
Secondly, I would go with dying some cheap white socks.
Thirdly, dh works out of a truck and has to eat a lot of PBJ sandwiches. But if he has something that needs to be warmed he puts it on his dashboard an hour or so before the wants to eat.
As far as the tax thing, What happens if its paid late?
You are amazing for doing all that you do and I believe in you. You will find a way to solve every problem and you will come out a winner on the other side. Just look at me I was really to run away the other day but now I am right back on the horse.
Big hugs.

If you PM me the info about the navy socks (size, do they have to be cotton, etc.), I will check Goodwill for you here and mail them to you. I was just in there the other day and they had TONS of brand new socks.
Keep your chin up! And vent away anytime you need to.Mom to two crazy boys

I hope things turn around real soon for you. DH sounds wonderful! I'm sure with attitudes like the two of you have, you will both look back and realize you ARE winners after all.

Also, just a thought (and maybe I missed it in your op), does the school have some sort of scholarship fund for uniforms and the extras that are needed?

First, what is special about the gym uniform? My ds has gym uniform i have to buy the t-shirt, but the shorts i have gotten access to wholesale and use those. $6 vs $20. I'm working on the shirts though..lol.
Lunches. My FIL works long days, MIL found a 9v cooler/warmer for him. It plugs into the lighter. However, rather than risk killing the battery, he recycled an old battery and used a connector/adaptor to plug into. What he does is use a regular cooler with ice packs,a nd takes a moment an hour before lunch (winter) and pops it in the warmer.
Otherwise a good stainless steel thermos will hold soups, stews nice and warm, a cooler keeps salads and sandwichs crisp.

... and it continues! lol
They have the school's name on it in gold iron-onish letters...
because of that... they cost as much as they do
No, there isn't any financial help available from the school... private school. They looked at me funny when I needed to apply for reduced lunch because we had a period of need. I do preform 'service hours' at the school, and it reduces the tuition $400 a year... it's not even 1/10th of the tuition, but her gparents pay it, and I want to do what I can to show them how much I appreciate what they are doing for my DD.
I must have done something right today because I went to Kmart and sitting there in the clearance bin was 2 pairs of navy ankle socks!!!! I decided against the navy tights or knee socks... the weather is getting warmer, if we have a chilly day, she can wear her knee-high boots and it won't matter what color socks she has on
DD came home from school with an invitation for a girls bday party.... on Sunday (short notice I can deal with...I have a few doodle bears in the closet from after Christmas... $12 each, on sale for $7...) We can't compete with the other families as far as gift spendages, so I don't even try...
and the girls love the DoodleBear
Fancy-Fancy Fashion Show Party
The invitation said to dress up, hats, boas, the works *sigh*
DD is not the girly-girl type... so... I dug out the leopard velvet leotard, her black skirt from skating... I made a boa, a triple bracelet and even a ponytail holder (hats, smats... ) with 1 pink and 1 black fancy fur I had in my pile... just need to dig up a pair of tights, polish up her knee-high boots and tadah! Fancy Fancy Diva!!!!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!
