Scrap Gold...
Just wanted to share that I was organizing my jewelry and I had some broken gold and some other gold jewelry that I would never wear (given to me almost 2 decades ago from high school boyfriends, LOL). I got $154! It was hardly anything really.
I'm glad y'all were talking about it a few weeks ago. This was def. worth looking into and doing.
So I purged/decluttered and made a bit of cash.
And BTW, I did find out that a necklace/pendant that was passed down to me from my Grandma was real. It was a shocker because 1/2 of what was given to me wasn't. So I'm the proud owner of a .18 carat diamond pendant.

I have thought of doing this but I don't think I have enough to bother with.

Paula,
Did you take to a place here in our town or did you use an internet company to sell it? I have a few pieces I want to get rid of but was not sure about where to take it.
Thanks,

Wow that's awesome, I sold my gold a while ago and got a pretty penny, I used to it pay the car insurance and put some into the EF.

Good deal!
I forgot to update on my experience. I got a check for $384 a week after I mailed my gold off to the refinery I chose. I was very pleased.

Would you girls mind giving more information? Where could I go to do this?

I used Midwest Refineries. You can "Google" them. All the details are on the site, except they don't explain that they don't do stone recovery... so remove any stones before mailing.

I'd love to get enough out of my scraps to repair the few pieces that need it.

This is interesting. I have a nugget and a small length of heavy chain. It always seemed to me that any mail going to one of those places would be subject to theft. I am going to look into it. Thanks.

I sent it insured for $500, the cost was negligible for the insurance and notification of receipt.

I just checked gold prices for today's close and it's at $915.something an ounce, but it fell $27.70 today.

For Leigh (or other Montgomery, AL folks)
Jewel Bank
6536 Atlanta Hwy.
Montgomery, AL 36117
(Across from Super Wal-mart)
334-270-2257
Approx. $7 oz. for 14K
Approx. $5 oz. for 10K
Take out any diamonds or other jewels if they'd be worth keeping if you are selling for scrap.
I took a ring to Ray Boone Jeweler and he took out the diamonds and rubies and then let me sell the gold setting to him for scrap. He gave me $7/oz. He even put the re-usable stones in a bag sep. from the damaged rubies for me. He was really nice.
