Did something good but wasn't a frugal move
Well I am like many people here an animal lover. I have 3 dogs which are rescues, 4 cats one a rescue, 2 birds 1 a rescue, rat, rabbit and gerbil a rescue respectively.
Well I adopted another cat today. However bc she had been there so long there was no fee for her. Realistically I know not the best thing when your in debt and I have 4 elderly pets one my little chihuahua was abused and very neglected by her former owners and she needs special care for instance she is blind in one eye and needs *eye cream* which is her ointment to help her produce tears so she will not become completely blind.
Well this new kitty is 6 yrs old has a juvenille(sp?)cataract and some issues with dermatitis that will be triggered by a flea bite if she gets one. Plus there is a rash of upper respitory infections circling the cat room but she has been there the longest of the cats and hasn't caught it thus far.
I did talk to my vet so they know everything etc etc. I was gonna leave her but I read more to her profile and just couldn't let her stay there. It would have killed me.
My mother thinks I am a nut bc I have these pets. My other family members think I am loon too though everyone agrees my pets are well cared for. My dh wasn't happy however he said he wishes I wouldn't get nomore but we can always accommodate our budget for this new one.
Plus my dd LOVES the pets and our social worker feels that having pets is an important factor in a child's life. My dd is particularly fond of the youngest cats whom are 13 months and 10 months.
No I won't get anymore. No I am not crazy I just love animals. Over the course of my life animals have been some of the biggest comforts for me.
Was this bad of me and does anyone think I am a loon?
TIA,
Sheila

I tell people if they don't like my pets don't come here plain and simple.

God bless you. People tend to forget that animals need love and attention too. You guys are really special. Who knows maybe your dd will be a vet someday!
Thank you for caring

If you're a loon, then so am I! I have 5 dogs and 3 cats, all but one are rescues as well. Yes, sometimes food/supplies/vet care eats into an already stretched budget, but to me it is worth it.
Congrats on your new "baby"

My family thinks I'm a loon too
, and not just because of the pets!
Just imagine what that little cat thinks of you
Sometimes, ya gotta follow your heart. What's the cat's name?

I think it is great that you have rescued so many animals. I myself have many animals and they can be very costly. But they also give me such happiness that they are more than worth the cost.
Debt as of 10/25/09:
Student Loan: Currently $9500
Mortgage: $472,000
Discover CC: $6500 at 0%
Chase Disney: $3000 at 0%
Goals:
Get monthly food budget down to $200/month for me and my husband.

I think I am more envious. Would probably have a whole bunch of pets. Fortunately for me I can have only two cats, some town law here. Otherwise I would be the crazy cat lady. LOL
