I want to tell you that you sound like a great Mom to me. I love to take my kids to Petsmart to look at all the animals there, we spend a long time in there each time we go. You would think we were at the zoo, lol. I too, am an animal lover and I hope that my kids will be too. I am not the domestic goddess I would like to be but I do bake and I love to throw little get-togethers with our friends sometimes and go all out with the munchies and stuff. Cleaning, not really my thing but as a SAHM too, I try to do my best. My plan was always to be a stay at home wife/Mom too because that is what I enjoy. Some people when they are unhappy will lash out with whatever they think will hurt you the most. Since you love being a homemaker she is trying to make you feel bad about what you are good at, DON'T let her. It seems to me that perhaps her husband is a little jealous of the great wife his brother-in-law has and maybe he has said to her why can't you be like that? Just a thought. In a few years you will be able to see the difference in your children and the children of people like this and then you will be able to fully appreciate the great job that you are doing.

Just wanted to chime in... I have a SIL just like this one. Always has some smart-alec remarks about everyone.

I think God gave us the gossipy ones to keep things interesting....

    Default Jealous SIL

Keep on doing what you're doing. You're doing great!

    Smile. That's all... smile.

Don't even dignify her comments with a response.
She will then get the message.

That happens to me a lot when people learn I live frugally and what I do.
The comments are unbelievable! Hurtful at times.

I would stop talking immediately... smile and say nothing more. End of discussion.

I tell ya! that just kills the rudeness. Kills it! And the rude person feels so uncomfortable and you can see them squirming in thier seats.

The best time was when one person tried to put me down for being frugal and ecologically concerned... in front of a group of people... LOL! The squirming was priceless. And I said absolutely nothing to invoke her embarrasment- she did it to herself.

Sounds like you are doing fine to me. It is your life and your time to do with as you please.

I have one of those SIL's also. She is in debt up to her eyeball's although she makes decent money yet she is condescending and more fake than Pamela Anderson's "girls".
I just smile and nod and tell hubby that some day I will let her know exactly what I think if he doesn't keep her at least 10 feet away from me at all times.

    Keep your chin up.

Not that it is ever "all right" to be rude and make someone feel useless, but as a working mom, I sometimes feel pressure from my SAHM friends. If I were talking to someone who mentions that they bake cookies and take their kid to the park, the first nerve that hits with me is "oh, you're a bad mom because you don't bake cookies or take your kids to the park". It sounds like instead of hearing about how frugal you're being, she took it as an insult to her parenting (and had a very childish and inappropriate response!).

    Just my two cents.
