    Default Most Unusual Cheap Eats?

Do you eat something unusual because it's cheap? I used to buy packages of scrapple for $1 each and would slice it and fry it for dinner. I'd never had it growing up, and only tried it because it was so inexpensive. Turned out it was pretty good!

I love noodles with butter and ketchup. My grandmother ate it, my mom eats it and I eat it. Now, it is my all time favorite comfort food.

Very cheap, we often fry in butter with onions after boiling. Potato and onion filling is made most often.

    Pierogi Recipe

Empanadas, all types. Sweet & Savory. I've used leftover fried chicken and spices as the filling once and that is the hands down favorite now. I just pulled the fried chicken off the bone and ran it through a food processor, added some spices, moistened a bit with water. Huge hit! I now make extra fried chicken so I can make these. Fill with whatever you have and fry up. Great as filled fried tacos, fill with jelly and roll in powdered sugar.

    Empty the fridge night

A great way to use up leftovers, I've even made 2 or 3 with this type of leftover as filling, then another few with another leftover filling, the end of the jar of jelly as filling, a few tablespoons of left over meats and vegetables seasoned well as filling. Believe me, no here complains about leftovers made this way. I've even heard of people filling them with pizza type fillings and even left over spaghetti and meatballs roughly chopped!

Fried cabbage and noodles (we don't use caraway, and often no sugar, depends on the onion)

One of my favorite confort foods is Fried Liver Pudding Sandwiches with mayo on white bread. It was cheap and my Grandparents used to have it for lunch. A great comfort food to me now. I don't eat it often as I feel the need to eat the entire pound loaf, but when I have really rough days I am not above going to get some.

Also, Biscuits and Gravy is another one we had a lot growing up. Granny made the best biscuits and Pa made the best gravy. I know they cooked it because it costs almost nothing and you can cheaply feed a bunch of kids and grandkids with it.

We eat Ramen noodles occasionally, because they are cheap - we don't eat them often because of the sodium and MSG.

I loved bologna sandwiches with mayo. Beans and sliced up hot dogs. Egg noodles with sauteed onions in brown butter.

Since the above is not the healthiest I haven't had them in a while. I used to like cheese and tomato sandwiches with mayo.

Right now I am eating spoonfuls of peanut butter.

Thought of another all time favorite. Leftover macaroni and cheese that is heated up in a frying pan with butter. You end up with some really tasty slightly crunchy noodles.

The cabbage & noodle combo reminds of a noodle dish my dad would make for lunch - minus being wrapped up in an empanada shell. He'd slice carrots, celery and shred cabbage, sautee in garlic infused oil and add in left over sliced bbq pork or whatever other meat we had on hand. It always tasted sooo good. Now I know why - he used MSG A lot of our cooking growing up had MSG in it along with salt

Totally loved the crunchy bits - I purposely cooked it for a long time on med heat in the largest frying pan we had...more crunchy bit ratio

Libby, we don't eat the cabbage and noodles in empanada shells, there is rarely a bite left when I make that. However it does sound like an interesting combo.

I like what your Dad makes, I just may have to try it sometime. YUM!

LOVE the crunchy bits...they think I'm crazy..another way to add some crunch is right before you're done or right after add some toasted bread crumbs.

    Grilled cheese with tomato

Fried really well done bolony sandwiches with mustard and onion. Not healthy but at least MOST of the time I pound the fried bolony before slapping it on the bread. There's times I actually crave this one.

I'm not sure I'd like ketchup on it, but noodles and butter are really good. I also like noodles with cabbage cooked in butter....also good comfort food, very filling, delicious and inexpensive!
