When life was hectic, and there were hungry kids (and their many friends) in the house, I had several of these Q&E start with a cake mix or brownie mix recipes I used. Wish I would have had the one for Chocolate Chip Cookies (LOL)....
Applesauce Crumb Squares
Bars-
1 pkg. Pillsbury Plus Yellow Cake Mix
1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
1 t. cinnamon
1 cup applesauce
1/2 c. butterscotch chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/4 c. wheat germ (can omit if you don't have any on hand)
Glaze- (which can be omitted)
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 t. vanilla
1-2 T. milk
Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, combine cake mix, margarine and cinnamon at low speed until crumbly. Reserve 1-cup crumb mixture. Press remaining crumbs in ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350°F for 12 minutes. Spread applesauce over crust; sprinkle with butterscotch chips. In small bowl, combine reserved crumb mixture, nuts and wheat germ; mix well. Sprinkle over filling. Bake an additional 15-25 minutes or until golden brown.
In small bowl, combine powdered sugar, vanilla and enough milk for desired drizzling consistency. Drizzle glaze over bars. Cut into bars. Makes 36 bars.

1 pkg. (21.5 oz.) fudge brownie mix
1 egg
2 T. water
1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts
Filling (below) or 1 container of vanilla ready-to-spread frosting.
Mix brownie mix (dry), egg, water and walnuts. Divide dough into halves; shape each half into roll 2-inches in diameter. Wrap; refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Heat oven to 375°F. Cut rolls into 1/8-inch slices. Place about 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until set, 6-8 minutes; cool slightly. Remove from cookie sheet; cool completely. Put cookies together in pairs with about 1 T. filling between each. Store in tightly covered container. Makes about 3-dozen cookies.
