When life was hectic, and there were hungry kids (and their many friends) in the house, I had several of these Q&E start with a cake mix or brownie mix recipes I used. Wish I would have had the one for Chocolate Chip Cookies (LOL)....

    Applesauce Crumb Squares

    Bars-
1 pkg. Pillsbury Plus Yellow Cake Mix
1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
    1 t. cinnamon
    1 cup applesauce
    1/2 c. butterscotch chips
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/4 c. wheat germ (can omit if you don't have any on hand)

    Glaze- (which can be omitted)
    1 c. powdered sugar
    1/2 t. vanilla
    1-2 T. milk

Heat oven to 350F. In large bowl, combine cake mix, margarine and cinnamon at low speed until crumbly. Reserve 1-cup crumb mixture. Press remaining crumbs in ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350F for 12 minutes. Spread applesauce over crust; sprinkle with butterscotch chips. In small bowl, combine reserved crumb mixture, nuts and wheat germ; mix well. Sprinkle over filling. Bake an additional 15-25 minutes or until golden brown.

In small bowl, combine powdered sugar, vanilla and enough milk for desired drizzling consistency. Drizzle glaze over bars. Cut into bars. Makes 36 bars.

    German Chocolate Dessert Bars

    BASE
1 pkg. Pillsbury Plus German Chocolate Cake Mix
    1-1/2 c. quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
    1 egg

    FILLING
1 can Pillsbury Ready To Spread Coconut Almond Frosting Supreme
    8-oz. pkg cream cheese, softened
    2 eggs

Heat oven to 350F. Grease 13x9-inch pan. In large bowl, combine all the base ingredients; mix at low speed until crumbly. Reserve 2 c. crumb mixture for topping; press remaining crumb mixture in bottom of prepared pan. In same large bowl, blend all filling ingredients; beat at highest speed for one minute. Pour over crust. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over filling.

Bake at 350F for 45-55 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm or cool. Cut into bars. Store in refrigerator. Makes 36 bars.

    Brownie Sandwich Cookies
(This is one the kids liked to make.)

1 pkg. (21.5 oz.) fudge brownie mix
    1 egg
    2 T. water
    1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts

Filling (below) or 1 container of vanilla ready-to-spread frosting.

Mix brownie mix (dry), egg, water and walnuts. Divide dough into halves; shape each half into roll 2-inches in diameter. Wrap; refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Heat oven to 375F. Cut rolls into 1/8-inch slices. Place about 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until set, 6-8 minutes; cool slightly. Remove from cookie sheet; cool completely. Put cookies together in pairs with about 1 T. filling between each. Store in tightly covered container. Makes about 3-dozen cookies.

    Filling
    2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. margarine or butter, softened
    1 t. milk
    1/2 t. vanilla
Beat all ingredients until light and fluffy.
