I've had good luck surfing the chamber of commerce websites before I travel and stopping by to get a packet of information once I hit town. Often the local restaurants will have deeply discounted coupons to pull in the visitors. On my last road trip we were able to get $3.00 off per person on a $5.99 all you can eat lunch buffet. We made that our big meal for the day and had pb&j sandwiches and milk for dinner for less than $2.00.
