Store bought Rotisserie chicken not frugal?? Look at my break down!
Yesterday I spent 7.99 on a rotissery chicken for lunch for the kids and i. We got one regular recipe chicken, a pound of cold salad and four biscuits for that price. Now here's what I did with it.
Put the biscuits in the fridge for later.
Meal 1
Take one breast of the chicken and chop it up, put it in the cold salad (this time we had macaroni salad). Instant cold chicken salad. The kid and I ate the salad with chicken bits for lunch
Meal 2
DH came home and cut up part of the second chicken breast for making himself a chicken sandwhich.
Meal 3
Took remaining meat from the carcass and heated it in a pot of water, about 2 cups, and added gravy mix. Heated up biscuits. Instead of sausage and gravy, we had chicken and gravy over biscuits.
Meal 4
Took the carcass, boiled it in water to make stock with carrots onions, garlic, etc
I will take half of that and make a soup
Meal 5
Took the second half of that stock and I will boil it down further, making a sort of condensed chicken broth. That'll go in the freezer for later use.
so one 8.00 chicken meal made 5 meals for up to 4 people...5 if you count ds2 who likes to munch on the little bits too.

Oh yes, Missy! I'm all about those cooked chickens.
Our local grocery store often has them for $4.99 on sale. Cheapest fast food out there!
I have DH pick one up on the way home from work & I start the mac & cheese . We'll do whatever veggie we have on hand.
I like to do the same with the leftover meat. I can easily get 3 meals out of it and one is hot & fresh the first night. ...woth hardly any cooking .
Also, I make a gravy type sauce & add salsa & use this with bits of chicken for quesadillas.

I buy those on occasion. They are one of my 'I don't feel like cooking, I need something easy and don't want to spend money on eating out' solutions.
Last week, I found a Tyson pre-cooked roasted chicken for 3.99 at Aldi's. Sort of the same thing, but you have to go home and heat it up.

I pick one up every time I go to Wal*Mart. I agree. The cheapest fast food around and Oh so much healthier!

I love those chickens!
Although, the ones around here are so little they look like cornish hens and would take at least two to feed my family of six. But on nights when the kids go to the grandparents for the night, they make a nice, easy meal for dh & I

My husband can expect to have one of these when I go on a big grocery buying trips, something easy after shopping, bagging, hauling, portioning for the freezer and finally putting it all away.
feee....wwww, that makes me tired just thinking about it. At least you don't have to fix dinner too.

I pick one up from Sam's from time to time. It's so quick and easier and healthier than fast food. I just cook potatoes or rice and fix a veggie. We usually have a few meals from it.
The ones at my grocery store are too small and cost more than the ones at sams. So if I'm at sams, I usually get one.

I guess what I'm saying is that I can make biscuits cheaper then what the store was asking (flour and baking powder dosen't cost $2. some thing for 5 or 6 biscuits)
and the chicken was a good deal already cooked!

at our store the biscuits come with it. I guess i could leave them there, but they don't cost any extra to have them. So for us, it works out cheaper to just take what they have than to make my own.

I agree they're great for convenience and value but when it comes to nutrition? I find a lot of them to be oversalted, maybe its the store Im buying them from? I buy them at Zellers, A&P, Costco, and a few other places but they're always dehydrated or too salty. Usually cant eat the skin and thats 99.9% of the time the best part! (as unhealthy as it is lol)
Overall they do rock compared to fast food.

I bought one at Sam's Club for $5 and it was delicious. We had it for two meals. I will be sure to buy one again. I just couldn't believe how good it was.
