Homemade Flour Tortillas~So Easy!~
~I only learned to make these this year after I figured out that it really was cheaper than buying a 10 pack at Aldi for .70. I can make 8 for .16(ingredients) and ? to cook them;probably pennies. Today I successfully made them with 1 part wheat flour, 3 parts white. Anyhow;
2 cups Flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 TB oil
~Mix together in a large bowl. Then knead dough in the bowl about 15 times. Divide into 8 equal balls. Roll each out on a floured surface into an 8 inch circle(or square
) Cook in an uncoated dry frypan on Medium-low heat for 45 seconds per side. Cover cooked tortillas so they don't dry out. If there are brown spots on your tortillas the heat is too high! I've been making a batch a week and keeping them in a ziploc in the fridge to use all week. These are a great way to use up leftovers. They make fabulous quesadillas. And you can also cut them in triangles, brush with oil and bake for awesome chips! Also, I like to make these earlier in the day. At dinnertime I'm too distracted and I cook them too crunchy. ~

thanks for posting, this is something that I've thought about trying. I'm going to try making them tonight . Quesidallas would go great with our "beanery " dinner! Glad you included in your post the cost comparison showing that it is worth making yourself!

Thanks for the recipe! I've always wondered how to do this and if it would be worth it.

wow _ will have to try these - would you believe that in the UK I sometimes pay over £1 (about $2?) for a pack of 6 or 8?

I make mine using the same basic recipe but there is one trick that will make them soooooo much easier to roll out...if you let your dough rest for about 15 minutes before you roll it out, it is a lot easier to roll.

~I was interested in purchasing a tortilla press until I saw that they were for corn tortillas. I eat mainly flour. Although I did buy a bag of corn masa from Aldi to make tortillas so I could turn them into chips. A $1 bag will make over 100 6 inch tortillas(or 400 chips!). When I was shopping, they were about $60-$100. Did you get a good deal?~
