    Talking Homemade "Drumstick" Cones

After the shock of seeing the store brand selling for .50 per cone on sale I decided I could make them myself.
    -Sugar Cones 12 count, 1.00
-1/4 gallon vanilla ice cream 1.00
-1/8 jar dry roasted peanuts, chopped .25
    -Homemade "Magic Shell" sauce:
(1 cup semisweet chocolate chips .50
    4 TB butter .25 )
    TOTAL: $3.00 for 12 cones/ $.25 each
And it took me less than 10 minutes to make them. Next I want to try "Klondike" bars!

~I let them freeze good and hard and then I stored them in margerine tubs. I had one today and it was crisp and yummy!~

That would be good if I couldn't stock up on Price Chopper's BOGO sales (24 for $3.39).

~I just went to Allrecipes and found this recipe. I melted mine together in the microwave. I kept thinking how extra yummy it would be with Dove Promises instead of chocolate chips!~

How did you do it. Just fill the cones with the ice cream, put chocolate and nuts on top and freeze on a cookie tray? Just wondering...how did you store them....

~What a great deal! Of course homemade also has other perks, like you can use any flavor of ice cream you want, even low-fat. You can use specialty nuts or crushed cookies or candy on top. The cone and the magic shell will hold it all together. I guess it never occurred to me to make things like this before because they WERE so cheap. But it's like the homemade flour tortillas I learned to make last year. It's so liberating to make things like this at home. I mean, I can't say I'm saving $100 a year by making my own cones and tortillas but ice cream treats are the pasts version of our modern quick mac and lunchables. I get the feeling that I must have been brainwashed before or something. I mean, did we forget how to make our own ice cream cones? ~

~I guess I didn't actually give directions, huh? Well, I made the magic shell in the microwave and coated the inside of the sugar cones. I did it fast and imperfect. I have a popsicle mold from the dollar store and I used that to place each cone upright. Then I popped them in the freezer to harden the chocolate. Then I filled with vanilla ice cream and returned to the freezer. I reheated my chocolate and chopped my nuts. Then I drizzled the cones with chocolate and dipped them into the nuts. After they hardened in the freezer(hour) I stored the cones on their sides in an old margerine tub, the biggest kind. :-) ~
