leftover makeover tips
What are your leftover makeover meals?
I seem to do ok with chicken. Whole chicken into chicken salad sandwiches or chicken fried rice, etc.
But how about other meal ideas to makeover the leftovers? If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Ham is easy---fry it to eat with "breakfast for supper," put it into omelets, make ham and biscuits, make sandwiches, put it into a chef's salad.

I have a veggie saving bag in my freezer where I put all the leftover veggies to make a soup. Sometimes I keep a leftover meat bag too, and add that to the soup as well.

ok first i need to learn to read as i thought that said leftover make up tips not makeover.
second i usually make shephard's pie out of leftovers. whatever meat (except fish) goes into the bottom of the dish, then veggies, then whatever starch we had, i.e. pasta, mashed potatoes, etc. i usually put it in custard cups because i'm hte onlyone that will eat leftovers and they are in serving sizes that waywife to carl

Here's one for Left Over Makeup......

if your mascara has started to clump inside the tube:
Simply put the cap on it and dunk the tube in really hot water. During the winter I have a bathroom that is freezing cold and I always keep a cup near the sink for this purpose. The mascara is made with wax and when it gets hot it melts again. It's as good as new.
And one for Food:
I have a roasted Turkey in my fridge.......hmmmm??????
maybe I'll make fajitas & use my garden vegies in a zesty salsa. YUM!

We eat last night's dinner again for lunch the next day. Then I try and transform it. A couple of days ago I made beans & greens soup (blackeyed peas, green beans, split peas, barley, potoato, carrot greens, spinach salad (LO), frozen chopped spinach, carrots) it was okay for two meals with cheese on top, but it made a HUGE batch, and there's only 2 of us. So I've buzzed it with my handy stick blender and it will become European style thick veg/cheese soup sometime down the road. (Actually, I think we'll have that and bread/butter for lunch....) But the bulk of it will go in the freezer for some blustery fall day, probably.
I found for us the problem with leftovers isn't that we won't eat them, it's that we get tired of them after a bit. Two meals is probably fine, after that, I put the dish into something else or use it as a sauce or something where we aren't eating the same soup, chili, etc. all the time. This is easier with meat entrees than when you start with a veg. though.
If I make a roast/bird, we'll eat off of that for a day or two then dump the carcass covered with water into the crockpot and boil the heck out of it. I'll get a quart of two of light stock.
If I'm feeling really broke, I'll cover a bird with water again and boil it down to demiglace. (This can take a day or two!)
I hope there's something here you can use!
