Frozen Sandwiches
Not really a school lunch question, just general lunch...
If you freeze a peanut butter sandwich will it get soggy when it thaws? How about a sandwich with mayo? I can never get through a full loaf of bread before it gets stale and thought I could make sandwiches and freeze them.Stacey

i've found that the bread will get soggy while it thaws.
the kind you find in stores (crustless sandwiches of grilled cheese or pb&j) are made of a thicker kind of bread that's not as pourous as regular bread... and also the grilled cheese requires warming which also toasts the bread.
so i'd recommend a good hearty bread to use that's dense naturally and try that.
anything with oil in it will soak into the bread tho. so pb, mayo, even some (oil based) cheeses can leave breads soggy.
what i've done is make a week's supply of sandwiches ahead of time and just keep them in the fridge. each Sat or Sun i'll make a week's worth for whomever wants 'em, and to make sure, make a couple extra for yourself to try as well, if you're feeding your kids.
nothing worse than a soggy cheese sandwich that's warmed up through the morning.
good luck!

Sandwiches do get soggy. I found that if I used Tortilla wraps, they do not. I've used these for Tuna salad (with mayo) and PB&J with no problem.s

Mayo doesn't freeze well, but I've not encountered a problem with peanut butter. I used to make up a week's worth of meat sandwiches (ham, turkey, chicken, etc.) and freeze them. I would pull them out in the morning, add the mayo and off they went.
But here's another idea: Just put a couple of slices of bread into a zip lock bag and freeze it. That way your bread won't go bad. When ready for a sandwich, pull out a bag, add the meat or whatever, and you are on your way.Spiritual:

I actually keep my bread in the freezer and take out a couple of slices as I need them.

I have frozen bread by itself, just thought it would be easier to just grab & go. I really like the tortilla idea. I'l have to try that.
