walking thru life blind
that's how i feel... have felt for many yrs.
i was never one of those kids who "knew" what they wanted to be when they grew up. i still dont.
i know what i like, i know what i'm good at, but i cant transfer those skills to a job necessarily - and the few i COULD do at a job, i'd be required to have a big fat degree sitting under my belt - which i dont have.
it's like i walk through life hoping i'll figure out what i need along the way.
i still have NO idea what to do as a job/career. i'm taking some courses "just to have a job" when i get done... but is it something i'll enjoy? I dont know. I don't hate what i'm learning, but it's not necessarily "me".
anyone else ever feel like this?
never knowing what you ultimately wanted?
and still having NO idea?
*a lost and wandering soul*

Yeah that's me! BUT, having my DH and DS ground me, if you know what I mean? I may not have a "career" per se but it's a job I am good at. I enjoy it for the most part and it pays pretty well. I just look at it as a way to continue the life we want for our family and that helps tremendously!
Have you thought about advertising your sewing skills? It seems like something you enjoy and would bring in some extra money as well. Just a thought.
I have learned not to define myself by my job. Yes, it's what I do 8 hrs a day, but my real definition is when I get home. And the kind of person I am, not what I do for a paycheck.

I know that there are some people who feel moved to work in a certain field or job or form of service. As for me....well every job I've ever had has been.....just a j-o-b. I think it's the same for the majority of people. (my humble opinion) I'm very happy for the few who absolutely love, every single day, what they make their living at. I just don't know very many of them. I also think that there has been a lot made of the 'finding your true path' etc...... . Not sure how practical it is. (this may not be the answer you were hoping for)
My own answer to your question is as for the moments of wondering if this is all there is.... I find this to be more of a 'where am I on my personal spiritual journey in life' question. I like to reflect and ponder from that perspective.

I've spent most of my life working in an area with hig demand and in which I have an aptitude. I never chose to take extra classes or to seek it out as a field, but it is hard not to sell yourself to the highest and most available bidder - in my case "Computers". I actually love the puzzle part of programming, and the communication part of problem definition (business analysis) but I have found that I intensely dislike working with hardware! Soooo, at 48, do I have the guts to try to change and start over? probably not, and many of the things I think I might have nejoyed better are not things I could do at this age and in this state of health (outdoorsy things do tend to require healthy workers). I still don't know what I want to "be" when I grow up, and am going through a spell of feeling very disconnected and like I have no place in this world in which I "fit". That is something I will be actively working on - where do I think I might "fit" and where do I think I might WANT to "fit". The odd thing is that many people seem to think I fit very well where I am - but it doesn't feel like it to me!

I'm almost 35 and I still don't have a career. I have a job, it's easy and it pays well but I have often wondered what I'll do next. My main source of income during my 20s and early 30s was food service and retail and I have no desire to go back to that! But then, I also don't have the attention span to go back to college and get a degree. I am hoping that mine and DH's current jobs will ride us through saving up a bunch of money OR allow us to buy the company we both work for. Ultimately, we want to be self employed so we have to figure out how that's gonna happen.
But yeah, I too, have felt lost and wandering from time to time!
