Global Warming - cross over from the Duggar Thread
Ok - so its no secret that there are two sides to this debate (both in the world and in this forum!).
Personally, I don't believe in Global Warming - mainly because its a catch phrase/sound byte. Have you noticed its not "global warming" anymore, but climate change? That's because low and behold - the planet is [I]cooling[I] and has been for the last several years.
However, I do believe that we should treat our planet with respect. I love trees - I hate subdivisions. I don't recycle because the last time I had to run something down to the dump (we were dropping off an old TV) I saw stacks and stacks of newspaper folded and tied with twine, piles and piles of neatly sorted glass and aluminum - all in nice neat little recyling looking piles. Then a bulldozer came and shoveled them straight into the pile with all of the other garbage.....However, I do try to reuse as much as I can around the house. I cook from scratch as much as I can and that eliminates a lot of waste. Once we get our farm going, we'll compost too...
I drive a big gas guzzling suburban and I won't apologize for it - my "large" family won't fit in a prius.~Jessica

Personally, I never have heard them 'change' it to climate change. Depends who you listen too. But I don't see how the earth is cooling.Personally, I don't believe in Global Warming - mainly because its a catch phrase/sound byte. Have you noticed its not "global warming" anymore, but climate change? That's because low and behold - the planet is [i]cooling[i] and has been for the last several years.
I am not a very green person myself, but I feel I should do way better than what I am doing. I have watched a lot of documentaries of this subject.
I know Christians say global warming=end times. (don't really want to debate religious views) but I am not sure how to tie it in. From my experience, most conservatives don't believe in Global warming and they come from that angle only.

I'm not a Christian - so I can't speak to the belief in the end of the world.
This is a quote from the EPA's webpage: "The phrase 'climate change' is growing in preferred use to 'global warming' because it helps convey that there are changes in addition to rising temperatures."
Documentaries are pretty much always skewed toward the beliefs of the producers...I wouldn't consider that sound research.
Even if the earth is getting slightly warmer - there is not proof that it is due to CO2...my problem with the Global Warming Fear Mongers (aka Al Gore) is that they just don't know - they are presenting theories and speculation as facts - and I have a problem with that.~Jessica

I say it doesn't matter so long as it gets more people to at least think about being less wasteful and more respectful of the environment.
Cleaning up isn't just about gw it's about the crap we dump into our oceans, the crap we eat, the crap we breathe. Overflowing landfills and suburban sprawl. Whatever stops the crap, I'm for. Even if you don't believe in gw, it's only a tiny little peice of poo in that giant dump. :p
It's the hallmark of humanity. Instead of taking what we needed and eatin' all we took, we just pulled the darn chair right up to the buffet and stuffed our faces, unrestrained. And now look, we feel bloated and awful, hot, stinky, wheezy, gassy and in need of a good purging!

That is just Al's passion.. He is missing a big one because eating meat is a big factor of global warming. I know there is so many links on these things.
*extra butter popcorn here.*
Well usually in documentaries they have people that actually speak what they have experienced and their is many facts. I wouldn't throw that out the window.

Here is my take on it! GW was predicted to make ocean levels rise, turn rain forests into deserts and throw the weather into chaos. For almost a decade now, tempertures have been cooling.
Next is after reviewing several of the models, the weight of data like solar activity and shifting of the earths magnetic poles has been very light.
Most people don't even know that the sun has cycles much like the earth has seasons or that the magnetic poles are not stationary.

Its not the actual eating of meat - its the cows themselves. Their flatulence produce more greenhouse gases than my Suburban does...~Jessica

I'm a Christian and I don;t say global warming = end times. (not arguing, just saying....)
It's funny, I am a Conservative in every area.....cept the environment. There I'm an environmentalist wacko tree hugger (as my hubby calls me!)
Global warming, is it happening? Maybe yes, maybe no. Both sides can proved their point, and quite frankly I don;t really care. If it's happening, it' happening, and if it;s not, it;s not.
(I know, brilliant, eh?)

Have you seen the email comparing George W. Bush's ranch to Al Gore's monster house? Here is the link on snopes - http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp
Al Gore is a hypocrite which is why I can't take him (and subsequently anyone that tries to "prove" Global warming) seriously. He's totally tainted his cause.~Jessica

Imho, the particular variety of Christians that see 'climate change' as a sign of end times are often the same Christians that can see signs of end times in everything from politics to stock prices to Britney Spears' lack of underpants to the Tuesday lineup on Comedy Central. It doesn't take too much to convince some people.
I'm not really a conservative, but I am definitely suspicious of the idea of anthropogenic climate change. (Btw, is it really fair to start the argument by saying that conservatives who don't believe in it don't believe in it because they're biased and unthinking? Bad form.)
P.S. I'm so moving to Canada if Gore ends up in any office.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~
