"New" Car
I can't believe that it is actually going to happen. DH and I have been talking about buying a used commuter car to replace his Pathfinder for nearly two years now. We started really looking and socking away the money back in January, and finally this weekend he found one and we are getting it tonight!!!
One thing I have to say after watching used car prices for the last five months is that if you have an older Honda or Toyota sedan/coupe, you have an appreciating property. I can't believe how much prices have gone up on them, especially since March. Here, they are selling for a good $1000 above KBB.
We are getting a 1990 Honda Accord with 138k miles. It has already had it's transmission troubles and been replaced, has brand new tires and totally checks out mechanically, except that we have to replace a window motor ($65). Considering how much we pay in gas each month we will recoup the cost of the car in less than six months. I am so excited!!!Amy

Congrats, hope you have many carefree months/years with it. Enjoy having your gas $ go farther than it has been lately.

We just did the same thing back in March! We bought a 1996 Honda Accord for dh to drive to work every day! It gets TWICE the gas mileage of his pickup. YAY!
Enjoy your "new to you" car!

We have a 1994 accord with over 205,000 mi on it. It is the longest we have ever owned a car. I believe we bought it in 2000-01 when it had over 104,000 mi already. My 16 yo daughter drives it now, although my hubby misses her (the car)..... he calls it his baby.... All we do is make sure to service it regularly, we have replaced tires, exhaust, window motor, and the most expensive but necessary is the 100,000 mi tuneup, around $400, but it just keeps on goin'..........
