    Default Born again Christian question

Okay--this will probably be the stupidest question, but could someone please tell me what exactly a "born again christian" is? My sister is one, I have a few friends that are, but I really don't know what it is. For a while, I was going to a baptist church and most people there were born again. I asked my friend a question about it and she told the pastor's wife that I was interested in membership classes! I just asked a question! LOL!

Anyway, please enlighten me. Thank you!

Also, I know this doesn't belong in general chat, but where does it go?

I think it means that you have accepted Christ back into your life and you were re-baptised.

To me it means to turn your life over to God and be "reborn"..have a new life in Christ. Like starting over from scratch....like a baby..

I hope that I can word this right...
we are born into this world physically. When you become a believer in Jesus Christ, you are considered "born again"...meaning that now you are a believer, you have been re-born spititually.

I am a born again believer. I was born physically many years ago. But a human is more than just a physical body; I also have a soul. So being born again is not a physical birth, but rather a spiritual birth.

In my belief, I reach a point where I realize that I am a sinner and that I will never be perfect enough to enter a perfect Heaven. (afterall, my first step in there will make it an imperfect place). Sin has a price. I can't make myself perfect. I can't get rid of the guilt and sin that are a part of my life. I just can't pay the price.

Sounds hopeless, eh? It would be hopeless if the perfect Son of God, Jesus Christ, had not stepped in to pay the price for me. He made the supreme sacrifice. From my understanding of Scripture, I can make a choice to believe that He made this sacrifice on my behalf, or I can choose to not believe it. I choose to believe it.

I confessed my sin to Him, asked for His forgiveness, and confessed that I believed that Jesus died for me. At that moment, I became born-again spiritually. It was a new beginning. For me, it took a couple of years of searching to come to this belief and to accept it without reservation.

Now, I am still not a perfect person, not by a long shot. My perfection will only come when I cross from life to life eternal. I struggle with temptation and attitude, etc in this present world. But I'm not buried under it. I still confess my sin and still ask forgiveness. Now I live with the knowledge that the price has been paid.

Let me encourage you to keep on seeking. I have never regretted my decision decades ago.

How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Well i have 2 ways of looking at born again christian

#1 they have started to believe in christ again and truthfully have found themselves with in the church

#2 They are using this new found status to get something they are wanting... attention.. love.. out of trouble ... ect.. i have noticed that most people that throw themselves so into church suddenly ... like going from the worst drug doin knife fighting sex fiend kid on the block to suddenly being the perfect model christian.. something to me isn't right with that picture.

Interesting...I just dropped by this forum to look for another thread that might explain what FV Experience is exactly, but this thread caught my eye.

I consider "born again" to be being born of the Spirit. Like when the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost. The apostles were Christians before that, but they weren't born again until Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended. That doesn't mean I expect people to speak in tongues, or they aren't born again (though in some circles it does mean that!). But it does mean, to me at least, that some experience with the Holy Spirit be involved.

Interesting discussion though. And kudos to you for asking! One can never learn unless they ask.
