Default Question on new Netflix Instant Movie option

Hi all! Maybe some of you saw on the news the new box and feature Netflix was rolling out. Any opinions on this new option?

I have Netflix & then often watch online the "instant" movies and TV shows available. Well now they have a new thing, a connector box for $99 that converts your broadband internet to your Tv so you can watch instant movies and shows from your queue onto your TV. The quality is supposed to be OK, depends on your internet connection & is another entertainment option. Due to rising costs ( sigh) and the stupid cable company keeping increasing its costs, I am toying with the idea of getting rid of the cable TV and just watching shows online or via this new Netflix thing. I did a little research online. I have the $9 per month Netflix option which also gives unlimited online instant movies & shows. The instant movie/shows choices are not nearly as great as the regular Netflix movies, but there is quite a selection of classic TV shows and some of my favorites. Sometimes I just like to watch a Law and Order or Columbo rerun or something like that on TV and there are plenty of options to suit my tastes available now with the new Netflix instant option. I do not have a HDTV and really am not a techno-savvy person so if the quality is a little fuzzy, that is not a deal-breaker for me.

The box is $99. I definitely need and will keep my broadband internet connection but if I go down to basic cable (14 channels just so I can get decent reception) I figured will save me $42 per month. So the cost of the Netflix box would pay for itself in 2 months or so. I know I do not NEED TV or movies to get by, but it is pretty much my major form of entertainment. And I have watched just about all of the movies available at my library! LOL! So if I can have access to some of my favorite shows and save $40 a month, well, might be a good option. Any one else considered this or had any thoughts on this? Thanks!

What kind of computer do you have? I mean do you have a laptop or desktop?

The reason that I ask is because DH and I have netflix, the two movies at a time and unlimited instant movies for 13.99. Zac bought a cable at Best Buy, think it ran about 30$ or so, but we are able to connect the cord to the laptop AND to the tv and we watch our netflix on the t.v. It's really good quality. Just an option!

I have a laptop. The modem is in the LR, where the TV cable connection comes in and 99% of the time I am using the laptop in the LR while watching TV. I don't have wireless, just an ethernet cord connected to the modem....so I am thinking I would need to get an ethernet cord router so I could plug in the Netflix device AND the laptop if wanted to use them at the same time, so that would be another cost.
Thank you MrsMcdowell...hmmm, I will start checking around on line to see about that cord you mentioned!

MrsMcDowell, My DH wants you to ask your DH what kind of cable to get - we have the Netflix Instant option and a laptop. Thanks in advance!

It sounds to me like a neat idea, but I doubt I would ever do it. I will probably just wait for my DVDS to arrive. My easy chair is much more comfortable than my computer chair.
