Spinoff from 'how times have changed'
I LOVED reading the ad in the other post and reminded me of a magazine I used to have.
It was a 1953 (or 1952) edition of the (I think) Saturday Evening Post.
I read it so much that I eventually had to throw it out since it literally fell apart.
Some of the the ads in that mag. were hilarious when compared to now and would actually be unheard of today.
For example there were photos of film stars smoking and telling others to do the same to relax them. It was the 'cool' thing to do.
Anyone else have really old newspapers/magazines?
One thing that I also like to do is when I decorate the Christmas tree is look at the old newspaper that I used to wrap up the stuff in.
I have kept the same newspaper wrapping. It is now 30 years old.*Avril*

I found an old town paper front page from when I was 5 years old. It had a listing of all the town kids that won races. Really funny to read and share with other people mentioned in article. They enjoyed it. I have a couple of old Life magazines. When I was a kid I liked looking at my grandmothers old SEARS catalogs.

We each got a book 'That was then" for the year we were born- it certainly is hysterical to look at!
Another, at one of the nearby restaurants, the tables were decorated with old news clippings and ads. (then poly'd) but you were quite entertained seeing ads from the 1800's for "corsets" to make you a beautiful and desirable woman. Love it!!
Or seeing gadgets that were new inventions back then- primitive.
Oh! and the prices! Can't beat them!

At my workplace, there are old "society" and women's pages from old newspapers as framed artwork in the women's restroom; and old sports pages as framed arwork in the men's restroom. They're generally from the 1930s and 1940s.

I don't have old magazines, but I do own a book with (I think) every advertisment that was ever made in the 50's. It is really great to see how things were back then.
They also do books from the 30's, 40's and 60's, all on American ads.*even the worriest day ends at midnight*

Reminisce Magazine is good for this kind of stuff too! Recently I found a newspaper from the 80s in a box of stuff from an auction where the gas was advertised at 88 cents.
