    Default Yesterday and the turtles

We have been rescuing turtles from the road. We had 4 of them. We made an enclosed 12x10 and made a pond (small 1x2 foot). They had shelter from the sun and lots of area to roam. They were soooo happy. They would come out in the rain. Come out into the morning to get feed. They even went as far as hibernating for us and laying eggs last summer. We have nutured them for over a year. Me and my kids, all the neighbor kids, and yesterday.. The neighbors behind us, their dogs got lose and came over and took them all.. Just took them.
The only thing I said we could do was pray that they had their defense to go in their shells and the pups would get tired of them and they would get off safetly. There was one left but they had cracked a bit of his ledge of his shell. I had my son let it lose under the playhouse for its own safety. I had to reassure him that atleast we had the pleasure of experiencing them first hand, and to not lose sight of all the goodness we got out of it.
The people behind us, came and apologized today. It was so refreshing for someone to actually acknowledge that they did something. (I mean dogs will be dogs) It was a really good feeling to see that some people still care about others.
So I am no longer mother to four turtles... what ever will I do with that extra time...hahahah

Rescue some more turtles? It sounds like they had a great deal living with you -- I'm sure others would be happy to take up residence!

    ahhh, bummer.

but you're right, dogs will be dogs.... so it's hard to be upset with them ~

I hope your turtle friends found safety and will be alright.

Last year, the neighbors jack russell terrorist attacked one of my cats (IN MY GARAGE) and he's permantly disabled. I screamed at the dog, screamed at the kid that came to get the dog..... later went to the house of said girl to let her know that I was sorry for screaming at her, it wasn't her fault the dog tried to KILL my cat....

Honestly, NO ONE EVER CAME TO CHECK ON MY CAT, OFFER TO PAY MY MULTIPLE HUNDRED DOLLAR VET BILL, NADA, NOTHING, EVER -

sooooo - I'm sooooooooooooooooooooo happy for you that you have REAL neighbors!!

Bella loves turtles and I am always rescuing them from her. They are attracted to our pond and we catch and release to the creek behind us. I'm glad the dog owners apologized. Good for you for rescuing the little things.

There are turtles every where in the road here lately. We stop and put them on the other side. I just can't bear that they will be hurt. Good for you for rescuing them, and I bet you will have more opportunities.

turtles migrate to lay eggs, could be why you are seeing so many of them, they also hibernate during cold weather. i love turtles and rescued a few last year, we took them to the river and let them loose. of course ours were snappers.
