Default Natural curly head people unite

After I complained about the long cold winter......

I forgot what humidity was. The last two days has been horrible here.

Just being used to putting a wee bit less hair product in my hair, I went out shopping most of the day. My blow dried bangs were curled up and my curls looked liked friz by the time I got home.

    laughing in the mirror actually...

    Fuzzywuzzy was a bear

Anywho, I am thinking about going sorta short this summer..

I use a pantene cream in my hair. Love it. Unless I get rained on hard. My hair doesn't frizz at all. Even in the rain, is just gets curlier. A lady I care ofr her little girl has awesome curls too adn she uses a product by AG.

Another little trick, after you wash and condition, towel dry and use about the size of a dime-nickel of conditioner and work back into your hair. This will also help.

I don't use gel, or hairspray in my hair. That makes my hair incredibly frizzy. I have been accused of perming my hair as I have "jeri" curls, but it's not frizzy like alot of people get with natural curly hair. My dd11 has the same thing. I have her do the same as I do.

If you're getting it cut, do something where it's allowed to do it's thing, work with the curl, not against, this is saving grace for my dd and me. The less styling you have to do daily, the easier it'll be! I have mine at my shoulders roughly. My whole styling routine: wash, condition, towel dry. Comb(not brush) out. Add some conditioner(for our winter only) then use the styling cream. set the part shake it out a bit, and good to go. For going out days, same process, except I'll take chunks of hair and twirl my finger to get some ringlettes happening, Diffuse until nearly dry shake it out and *voila* big loopy curls. Then I might set with hairspray. But I don't do that often.

I have thick curly hair and the ONLY product that works for me is PROVON (sp?) you can get it at Sallys beauty supply- it is only like $3 for a big bottle and a little bit (quarter size) goes a long way! It'll give you that nice soft curls look.

If my hair get's even a few drops of water (when it's dry) it frizzes out like crazy. I use Nexus Styling Gel and that's it, I too need something that can help the frizz.

My main thing, is now it's getting warmer and if I go swimming OMG my hair frizzes out majorly when it starts drying, I look like a mop, any advice? Even something I can comb in or put on after getting out of the pool/beach that will help keep the frizz out COMPLETELY.

I use Pantene conditioner too. It works so much better for me than the cheaper stuff. I have a professional flat iron to straighten out the curls, but if it's a rainy day...fugetaboutit!

I'm a curlyhead too. I don't shampoo most days. Instead I use conditioner as though it's shampoo: scrub it around my scalp and rinse well. On days I DO finally have to shampoo I ONLY shampoo my roots. I let it air dry (unless I'm blowing it to a style) with some creme in it, like Sunsilk ($2-3 and it lasts forever because I only use a small amount), and I scrunch it as it dries. If I go outside while it's drying, the wind blows it into a frizz, but if I can be inside while it dries, it actually dries really nicely.

Gels, mousse, etc. will only dry hair out. I avoid them completely. It took a little while of frizz to get out of the shampoo/mousse routine, but my hair recovered and now looks pretty nice when it air dries without those products.

I also deep condition once a week, usually after my weekly shampoo.

I can join in on this group! I have long curly hair and it is driving me crazy right now! I am so tempted to cut it short but then I will look like bozo the clown......only I have brown hair, not red! I've tried everything and it is sooooooooooooo dry it screams at me!

Lovely!! I so need you all. Ok, two of my boys have curly hair. I need help.

One of the twins (Q) has curly hair, well, he has ringlettes. It looks shoulder length, but it is longer if you pull the curls straight (like mid-back). His hair parts on the side. The way the curls lay, well, it looks like a "style". He washes and conditions it in the shower. He picks out his hair while he is in the shower while the conditioner is on it.

The oldest (Beak) keeps his hair shorter. He likes it like the 80's bi-level haircut where the guys had it feathered in front and permed in the back. His hair does that naturally. The back is a little longer than collar-length (that is where he prefers it). If the front is cut right, it feathers back. He has fatter, banana curl-type of curls. He just washes it in the shower. He says that he doesn't have to condition it if it is kept shorter.

So, is that ok that Q picks it out in the shower? When he gets out, he pats it a little with his towel to dry it. He wants the curls intact. He doesn't seem to care if it is frizzy (he is only 10). It isn't ever really that frizzy unless he hasn't washed it in a few days. He doesn't pick it out between showers because it just winds up being an afro.

Does Beak need to condition it? It doesn't look like it needs it (the ends look fine). He doesn't ever really comb it. I do think he finger combs it in the shower though. He is 12 and we don't discuss "shower" things anymore.

I really appreciate the help. I have straight hair that doesn't hold a style. I finally got a bit of a wave in back after having the twins (Woohoo!). I am so clueless with this curly hair stuff. DH is the one with curly hair, but he keeps his hair about an inch long and he is no help. We also have a house rule that you can have your hair how you want it, but you have to take care of it.

Hey! DH is taking the boys camping this summer. There aren't showers there and the boys will be bathing in the river. Any tips or ideas or suggestions?
