    Unhappy Please Help

I took my little boy to the doctor for a yeast infection in a very sensitive area. The medicine he gave me to put on it burned so badly and I wasn't seeing an improvement so I stopped using it after a week and half. I went to the pharmacy, and they said to try Monistat with A&D ointment + we switched to boxers. It looked like it was getting better, but I just checked and it looks worse. I am at my wit's end. Has anyone else encountered this problem with a young boy? If so, what did you do to fix it? I'm not sure that another trip to the doctor is going to fix it. HELP!!!

~I don't have any experience with yeast infections in boys but I was prescribed a great cream. Nystatin, when my daughter had thrush and I had a yeast infection. It didn't hurt her or me. Another thing to remember is to keep other irritants away from the infected area, like too much detergent/softener in the laundry and perfumed soaps and lotions. The area should be allowed to air out as much as possible. Remember yeast grows in dark, moist places. Also be sure to moniter his diet. Have him abstain from starches and sugery foods. Suger feeds the infection! Hope your ds heals quickly!~

I'd take him back to the doctor asap, and in the mean time I'd either get him on a good probiotic or some high quality cultured dairy like kefir.

Poor baby. I hope it clears up soon.

Does he like yogurt? I've heard that yogurt with live cultures is supposed to be helpful for yeast infections. We would give this to our kids when they were on antibiotics to help prevent yeast infections. But for now, probably should let the MD know that the current treatment isn't helping. Good luck.

Vagisil cream and hydrocortizone cream mixed half and half and put on it should clear it up and shouldn't burn him. Just put it on him a few times a day. It doesn't take very much each time.

Aw poor boy! My son used to get terrible diaper rash that would sometimes get infected. We used the Nystatin and it worked. The yogurt sounds like a good idea too. But I would absolutely at least call the doctor and tell them what is going on.

Same here. I've even had some old school doctors prescribe it for some of my patients in the past.
