those less frugal
After reading a lot about frugal living lately, I'm wondering to myself, don't people have a right not to be frugal? Why do we think that everyone should have a garden, hang dry laundry, coupon shop, etc. I know it seems logical to those of us who live this lifestyle to do these things, but not to others. I'm the kind of person who does not force my opinion on anyone. I believe what I believe and I think people have a right to their own opinions without being judged. However, I still catch myself looking in grocery baskets or at new cars and think "tsk tsk".
What do you think? Assuming that a person or family is self-sustaining (not using tax money or donations to survive) do they have a right to be un-frugal without judgement?

of course!! to be frugal or not to be frugal is really no one's business but our own. I will happily help those who ask for my help or advice, but I don;t speak poorly of those who choose to not be money wise.

I believe we live in a free country , so they can do whatever they want.
We have no right to force our lifestyle on them anymore than they do us.
I don't care if their on foodstamps or getting help otherways
either.
I've been there and I don't begrudge others. ( do I like it some use the system NO , but many don't )
We live our way because it works for us.
I don't begrugde ones that eat out 3 or 4 times a week.
( planning on opening a restarant soon so hope people still go out to eat )

As long as it isn't my tax-dollars being blown (meaning wasted on non-essentials) I don't care what others do. If they stay outta my business I return the favor.
If someone actually asks for advice or input, that's entirely different.

I agree with you. It IS everyone's choice. The only time it bothers me is when it directly affects me (eg my inlaws who spend money like crazy and then need our help financially while we're being frugal and scrimping & saving).

I do not mind if others are not frugal, as long as they do not expect me to support them, lend them money, or listen to their troubles that stem from their choices.I am not the most frugal in the store. I am not the most frugal with household expense. But we pay our own way, do not expect handouts, and we try not to complain. So I do not feel judged. If I am...oh well.

I say to each his own. The only thing that irks me is people that blow money as soon as they get it and then whine about being broke.

There are really 2 ways to look at this situation.
One, like most of you say, is it doesn’t really matter what other people do with their time and money, it’s a free choice system here.
The other, is, if everyone cut back some and grew a small garden (even just one tomato plant in a container), the environmental savings would be enormous.
So the bottom line is I don’t mind what others do, but it would be nice if they would care a little more.
I also find myself astounded sometimes at what people have in their shopping carts, I have never said anything, but I sure thought a thing or two ………

I have not always been frugal and I judge my own ways the harshest. I do find myself being "upity" about frugality and those can be my personal thoughts. I am just have to engage the clutch of keeping my mouth shut when no one ask for my opinion. No one really wants a busy body hanging about going "tsk, tsk" for someone else's non-frugal ways. People roll their eyes around me enough as it is!

I agree with all of you......to each his own! I have a very good friend who never understood why I do the things I do, until now. Her husband has been out of work for 2 months and now she wants all the advice and info I can give her, which I gladly do. Before this I never gave her my opinion on the things she did and our friendship has lasted 25 years that way!!

TO BE OR NOT TO BE frugal. That is the question.
If everyone was frugal... then... we'd have to be even MORE frugal! right? I mean... we'd have be able to be more savvy, more saving, more frugal. So, I'm just comfy like this.
If everyone was frugal? the economy will collapse... which is one of the reasons the great depression was so severe and so long.
Spend all you want! it helps the economy= so my frugality won't be tooooo noticed.
I look at some other's spending habits and say "tsk tsk". what a waste. But I have no problem with it.
When they're ready to hear... they'll come around. And not a moment sooner

Absolutely--there are sooo many things that I am not frugal on at all. I don't have a garden, air dry, or use coupons regularly, but I'm frugal in other ways.
To each his or her own. Actually, I'm glad so many are NOT frugal--they keep the economy going!Mom to two crazy boys

I don't care how others spend their money, but I do care whether or not their choices cause suffering to others, harm to the environment, or to me. I think that frugality and being good stewards of the earth go hand in hand.
