I Went To the Renaissance Faire...
I went to the Renaissance Faire,
The birds and the beasts were there...
la, la, la, la.....
We're home from the Renaissance Faire and have showered. My, it was
hot and sticky there. But such an interesting experience. Once we
parked and walked over the bridge, we were in 1543 AD. Live madrigal
and folk music from dulcimers, and other antique instruments greeted
us. The people were walking around in Elizabethean dress of various
types. The fellow at the gate who took our tickets, took my hand and
kissed it. They had various types of craftsmen doing demos: wood
working with old style tools, pottery, stone carving, cooking, and so
forth. There were several stage plays. We saw the pirate show, horse
riding/jousting, the magician, the juggler, the belly dancers and the
Shakespearean show of MacBeth. They were going to perform Hamlet
later, but we got too hot to stay any longer.
Ate lunch there and had a hand squeezed orange drink, a Cornish pasty,
and a pork sandwich on homemade trencher bread. The pork was cooked
on a spit over an open fire.
The fair was divided into nationalities: French, German, Vikings,
English, Scottish and ?? (I can't remember...). Costumes reflected
this as the guys wore kilts in the Scottish area, hats with horns in
the Viking area, etc.
My favorite part was the strolling musicians. The music was so
beautiful. And strangely, I liked the belly dancers. They balanced
swords on their heads and went down to the floor and back up. Wow...
The horses were really decorated also. One horse had a really fat
guy riding it. The announcer said that fellow was so round that they
called him Sir Cumference!!
At 1:30 they had a big parade all thru the grounds with all the
horses, royalty, trumpeters, musicians, woodland sprites (complete
with wings), swordsmen, jugglers, and anyone in costume.
So it's been busy and hot, but we really enjoyed the day.
Have you ever been to such an event? It was a first for us. But I like historical re-enactments. We've gone to various ones all over the US.Spiritual:

Hiya,
I love the Renaissance fair!!!! That was my hubby and mine 1st date. We went with my mom, dad, and brother in one car
(I was shock that my hubby got in the car to begin with lol. I remember it like it was yesterday...lol... We went to the play they had of the Tame of the Shrew and we sat in the back of the rows, well the two guys the were dress up as Jokers came over and made fun of us in front of everyone asking why we choose seat so far away. It was a great time.
Now since that was almost 10yrs ago we have not gone back, we always say we're going to go this yr, but then things come up,we don't make it.

When I lived in Dallas, Scarborough Faire was a yearly event I never missed. I loved it! But, I haven't been to a Renaissance Fair in years.
My girls have great memories of it... wonder if it had anything to do with my oldest choosing to study costume design?

Sounds like fun. I've never been to a Renaissance Fair. Hopefully, that will be something I get to do in the future.

Hi,
My family and i just performed as strolling minstrels in our first Faire last weekend.
It was a very small, first attempt fas a fund raiser for our Art Museum. We made some new friends and it was lots of fun.

I LOVE going. We used to go every year both in NY when we lived there and in MI. We haven't gone the last couple of years because it's really too crowded (in my opinion) to bring our young kids. We tried a couple of times with the kids, but man oh man it was too hot and crowded. Plus, they were so young that they weren't really interested in a lot of what was going on there. But as soon as they're all a bit older, I look forward to going again.
I always have to have a turkey leg. LOL
Glad you had fun.

The only events we have in our town are rodeo's and demolishion derby's. I'd trade those for a Renaissance Faire any time.
