New Here from Georgia
Hello,
New to this forum. I HATE wasting anything. My husband says we are not cheap, we just love a good value.
Funny, as we have "matured", we have paid more attention to saving/value.
Started really paying attention last year. Have saved a lot of money and waste w/out loosing any quality of life.
Over the past year we have:
--Got rid of cable tv at 52.00+ per month. Last year before we got rid of cable - 100+ channels..my husband - "there's nothing on"!. This year less than a dozen channels - $0.00/month - "there's nothing on"!. So tell me what we are missing?
--Got rid of land line. Only use was for alarm system. Had ringer turned of. Only calls we rec'd were junk calls.
--Got rid of alarm monitoring svc. We don't have any expensive doo-dads. Our deductible on home ins. is the max we could get. Nothing that could be stolen from our house would come close to the deductible.
--Got rid of DSL w/phone line. Hated paying for a phone line just for the DSL and the alarm. We use verizone wireless cards - the business pays for them since we use them for business (I do a lot of work from home.) Still saving of $15.00 per month over the cost of the DSL and phone line.
--Got kitchen sink, husband bathroom sink and shower aerators w/a shut of button on each, and low flow for the rest of the sinks. Saving of $15.00 per month on water bill, cut usage in 1/2 per month. Wash dishes in sink, not dishwasher. 2 people take too long to fill dishwasher - don't run the water while washing, so don't waste water.
--Dry clothes outside when warm. Not going to use a dryer when I have to use the AC! Husband didn't want a clothes line in the yard. We have a large screened in porch. Put hooks in on the support posts between the screen panels, and attach line to them w/hooks. Take down the lines when not in use, so no fussing from husband! Not like we are going to sit on the porch when it is 90+ degrees outside.
How did you hear about frugal village? Internet search
What interests you here? Getting the best value - sometimes that doesn't necessarily mean the cheapest cost in money.
What will you contribute? Little bits here and there where I can
Do you know any other members here? No
How many kids? Ages? None. One pampered kitty, on beta fish. Want some chickens.
Tell us about yourself. "Own" (okay, the bank owns it, but have a good low mortgage) our home in a normal older suburban neighborhood. Nothing fancy, just a well built home on a decent sized lot w/lots of trees. - we call is a "normal" people house. Normal people cars (nothing fancy, just average). Nothing exciting, just boring middle aged, middle class sort of folks, w/a bit of a health-foody twist.
Do you own any pets? One spoiled kitty (would have another, but she HATES cats - wouldn't share us for anything). One beta fish. Want chickens - maybe next year!
Occupation? Part time office manager for my husband's business, part time pet sitter - mainly for special needs kitties
Married or single? Married 14.5 yrs
Interests and hobbies? Cat nutrition and alternative heath, cross stitch, reading, cooking, gardening. Puddin, our kitty is fed a raw diet. The only thing I don't worry about $$ on is her food/care - she gets the best.

Welcome to Frugal Village!
" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."
