Our State in Dire Straits (long)
We have had one heck of a week here in Indiana. Since a week ago Friday we have had soooo many severe storms and tornados. As of this past Friday A.M. we had 41 of 92 counties declared disasters by govenor due to tornados. Friday evening and Sat. morning we had more rain. Some places got as much as 11" in 4 hour period. Now approx. 15 counties in central Indiana are extremely flooded. In some places entire towns are under many feet of water. All major state roads going south from Indianapolis are closed. It's horrible.
I thank God that we and our families are safe. I have a nephew who has no running water in his town - and won't for at least 4-5 days due to flooding. One aunt was hit by tornado Friday night, but lost only trees - no structural damage. We feel so BLESSED.
I know there is damage in Ill. as well. I ask everyone to please keep these thousands of people in their thoughts and prayers.
I believe our economy in IN is going to go down the toilet after this. Homes have been destroyed, business's destroyed, tons of crops are under feet of water and destroyed. Many businesses can't open, as no one can get to them. Trucks can't get to many places with supplies. Hospitals have flooded. Roads and bridges are destroyed. Unbelievable.
To make matters worse today and Wed. are the only days for the next 7 days that it isn't supposed to rain. We have strong chances of more severe storms coming. They say Mon./Tues. will probably drop another 2 - 2 1/2" of rain.
Sorry this is so long. I just feel so sorry for all these people. Most of these places aren't even in "flood zones". They say some of the damage is worse than anything seen since flood of 1913. Well over half of our state is damaged.
Please keep these people in your thoughts!!!

We are getting hit hard here in Iowa. We had a town wiped out due to a tornado a couple weeks ago. We also have severe flood all over the state. I have friends that have been evacuated from their homes. We have water in our basement, but we can deal with it. I just keep washing towels.
It keeps on raining with no real end in sight.
I hope everyone is doing OK. We have been praying for those impacted by this weather. The rain needs to stop.Julie

I know what you mean. I live about half way between Rushville and Shelbyville. We live in the country on a hill, and we didn't have as much rain as just a few miles down the road. We live about 10 minutes from where the tornadoes hit last week. Alot of people don't even have flood insurance because they have never had this problem before.

I live in Indiana also. I have never seen water so high. We were trapped in our subdivison because of high waters. Acouple people next to me have 2 ft of water in ther basements. I also feel blessed at my house was not damaged badly and that we are all safe. My dad is a fireman and has not slept all weekend because of all the rescues. It's sad that is had to happen but now my DH has work. He has not worked in 2 weeks because of the economy and now today he's back to work rebuilding basements!
Please pray for these people.

My heart goes out to all of you. I see these storms and tornado's on the news all the time. In Australia we would not begin to know what you are going through as we have not had disasters of the magnitude that you all have. You are all in my thoughts.

Take Care

I know what you mean. We are in IL and have had pretty much non-stop rain, tornadoes, rain, thunderstorms, and more rain. The flooding here is pretty bad. A man a couple towns away from here lost his life when a flood swept his vehicle away and pulled him under the water just a couple of days ago. The farmers are losing their crops - if you think food prices are high now, just wait until we get the effects of this lost growing season. It is really awful.

Thanks to everyone for keeping these people in their thoughts and prayers. I know this is happening to many many people in many states.
Whatever happened to simple rain showers? It seems that everything is getting so extreme.
This will help contractors of every type, who haven't had work. But I'm sure a lot of con artists will come out of the woodwork to cheat people as well.
Food prices will surely go up, due to loss of many many crops.
I just keep thinking about they trickle down effect this will have. People losing homes and business (many w/no flood insurance), business's can't open, therefore people can't work. People can't work - therefore no money for bills. Loss of crops - therefore high food prices all around. Roads and bridges destroyed, - therefore city and state budgets will be strained.
I think this will affect many for some time to come.
It just breaks my heart for all. BLESS THEM ALL.
