    Default Do you Pow Wow?

Anyone here been online for quite some time?
Anyone remember a kick @$$ program called Pow Wow by Tribal Voice?

This thing was way ahead of all the other messenger programs.
What did you do when you first started to be online? (I started to be online with Cable Broadband in 1996)

    I chatted...for a while.
Then I learned new things like building cheesy geocities web pages 1997. Then I learn some new things and started developing some websites.

    what were your experiences online?

I started online just using e-mail. Then I got hooked on Ebay! LOL I had a rather large store, learned how to design and market it myself. Lots of fun! Now I do a little of whatever interest sparks me at the time. Right now I am getting into blogging (kinda later than most) and it's fun and educational.

oh good grief. i remember pow wow.
i started on the net in 1995.
    i only started with email.
but since then, i have gone from freewebs to having myspace and facebook. i also belong to several communities online.
i am an avid crafter, so i get a lot of ideas online. i also use the web for recipe searches.
since i also do a lot of research, this contraption makes it a lot easier. lol

Okay, going into the future a bit... have you heard of joomla?

I was building a website for a client and his son-in-law is a techie and insisted that joomla was the latest, greatest, thing... which it might be when they've worked the bugs out. It seems fine for folks who don't know how to build sites... open source and all that. But, otherwise... I think it bites.

Anyway, the techie son-in-law told my client that I didn't know what I was doing if I didn't know joomla. I talked to several techie friends... they hadn't heard of it and didn't know about it. So, I'm just wondering...

Yeah... I know what it says. I spent a week trying to get up-to-speed with it. If you use their templates, it's okay. But, if you don't want their templates you have to create your own. You can't just use html or psp. I really dislike it.

Oh and it's installed on the server. So, the entire server is a joomla server and there isn't a work around. I couldn't get the client to understand why I couldn't upload the files I created to his server. Son-in-law convinced him not to transfer the domain name... a real mess and I lost a lot of time on the deal. Oh well. I learned quite a bit in the process.

Thanks for confirming that not everyone knows about this latest/greatest thing in the tech world!

I have one messageboard I go to on a regular basis that is hosted on Joomla - and the darned thing is down more often than not. When you've been joomla'd, it's not pretty!

Anyone remember FireFly chat? That used to be the thing. I started on the net in 1995, on a Mac so I couldn't use PowWow. I had dialup and had to wait as the chat pages loaded; by the time you posted your reply you were soooo far behind it wasn't funny! Those were the days.

We use Joomla. Wordpress and Vbulletin.

Joomla is ok in my opinion. Its a content management system (CMS). It automates several tasks on the server.

There are other products out there similar to Joomla.
