There are still good people in the world...
So over the weekend, we had yet another branch fall out of one of our trees. So it is time for it to come down.
I called 4 different tree services. All with estimates ranging from $900 - $1000. Which actually isn't too bad, we thought it would be double that to have 2 trees removed and have 3 stumps ground out.
Anyhoo, the final guy that came out, gave me an estimate of $900, but didn't need to take our fence down to bring the heavy equipment, and was even going to prune the one healthy tree we have left to keep it away from the power lines, etc.
Well, while he was here, we got to talking, and it turned out that I went to school with his daughter-in-law. So, I was asking how she was doing (haven't seen her in at least 10 years). He told me that they were having a hard time with things, lay-offs, almost lost their house and now they have a baby on the way.
So, I told him I totally understood and told him about our fiasco over the last 3 years with the same situations. Told him that we were just getting back on our feet after almost losing our house, DH finally has a good job with security, etc. Just basically, telling him to tell his DIL that things'll get better etc.
Well, I think I hit a soft spot with him, becuase they he knocked the price of the tree removal down to $825!
I was so happy. He told me (with a wink), that he couldn't, in good conscience, take all of our money we had worked so hard to save, and as his good deed of the day, would save us a bit more money.
I swear, I asked him for a bunch of business cards. I plan to be his walking billboard from now on!

Tree service is expensive. We had 2 trees to take down in our back yard. One was already dead and both were not very tall. The wanted over 5K to remove them! We ended up meeting a neighbor down the street that help us cut them down ourselves and we gave him 600 bucks for his help. Afterwards we rented a mulcher from Home Depot and chipped it, used some of it for mulching our beds and posted the rest on Craigslist for free to get rid of it. Saved us a lot of money!

Yes, indeed, there are still good people in the world, but they don't make the 6 o'clock news very much, unfortunately.

Thanks for the idea, SAHM I Am! I didn't even think about it, but I'll have to bake something up for the guys who come out. Maybe I can send them home with some goodie baskets!
