    Default Phone books

Is it just here or is it everywhere? We used to have one rather slim phone book that included the yellow pages. Now we have at least 4 delivered and they include 1/2 the state in them. I opened the top to my desk to have them fall out on me today. Grrr! At least 2 of them are going out to be recycled without ever being used or looked at.

For as long as I can remember ours has always included the tri-county area (about 500,000 people plus businesses). They are usually around 2 inches thick.

To be honest, I normally throw it in the reycyle bin as soon as it comes in. I use YellowPages.com and anywho.com if I need a number. I can never find a good place to keep the darn phone book so out it goes.

A few years ago some other company started delivering another phone book. I called and asked them not to give me one since I did not need it or want it. However, I still get it every year.

This bugs me, too. I'm in the Balt/DC area, so you can imagine how thick they are. The biggest come in a set, one book for yellow one for white, both a few inches thick. And then we get several little ones. We're right on a county line, so we end up getting sent these small ones from both counties. And it's just duplicate information!

And DH, for some reason, even though I swear I can't remember the last time we've had to look in the phone book for a number, insists we keep them. "Just incase!" So there's an ugly stack of phone books sitting on the stairs to the basement because I've got nowhere to hide them.

I wish they'd stop them altogether. Such waste. Why not make the people who want one, order one?

Or the people who don't want them should be put on a "leave me alone" list. I agree that it's a huge and obvious waste. But wait ... the goal of the phone book company is not to provide you with information, but to make money off advertising. Good luck stopping that.

We get 4 different ones all from different companies. Drives me nuts, it's such a waste and most of them are filled with completely useless information.
