How frugal is (or was) your toothfairy?
DS7 lost his first tooth yesterday!
He is kind of a wimp when it comes to things like that, so I was really impressed when he tugged on it to get it out. When it first started wiggling, he was afraid to touch it becuase he was afraid it would hurt, so I was impressed.
Anyhoo, DH and I had no idea what kind of cash the tooth fairy should be doling out these days!
When I was young, it was a quarter, but that was a while ago. Just curious what everyone else is doing.
I actually ended up giving him a dollar. I figured my kids don't get allowance, they have to do chores for their spending money, and I do kind of cheat them a bit. They get a quarter for rolling the garbage can to the end of the driveway, fifty cents for cleaning up dog doo in the back yard, etc. So, I don't pay them what they should get for some of these things.
But, I had a gold dollar coin in my purse that I had gotten from somewhere, so I thought that would be perfect. I think I'll do that for each tooth for both kids over the next many years.
But I was just curious what everyone else did for their kids???

We do a dollar also but for the first tooth we did $2, any tooth that is special gets $2. Like my dd has a mouth full of caps that have been with her for 7 years so those teeth get $2 or more depends on size of tooth like molars

We always got a dollar---I love the ideas of using dollar coins. They seem 'special'.

The tooth fairy leaves gold dollars here too! She left silver dollars when I was a kid.
They are very special. I still have my "silver" tooth dollars.
Last night the tooth fairy left my daughter a golden dollar and 55 cents spending money.
My son ( who is older) was shocked at the amount. I guess her prices have risen to since he lost his first top tooth.
We finally decided that maybe it was because it was a painful tooth that was loose forever and hurt when it did fall out. My daughter kept it to look at for several days before she finally decided the tooth fairy could have it.

Our tooth fairy always leaves a dollar and a new toothbrush and special tooth paste for the first tooth. And every so often another tooth brush if it has been a while. Just last week the tooth fairy left $5.00, because at 3 in the morning when she visited, she noticed she only had a $5 and $10.00 bill in her purse so she opted for the $5.00!

I also remember giving my tooth fairy a very hard time. I would put the tooth in an envelope, seal it and draw all over the envelope and seal. I figured that the tooth fairy was magic she wouldn't have to open the envelope to put the money in it. To this day my mother will not tell me how she did it, she just tells me the tooth fairy did it. I have visions of my poor mother steaming open the envelope at 3 in the morning to put my money in it! If I was that tooth fairy I would have just moved on to the next tooth.

The very first tooth got $1 and a letter from the Tooth Fairy's office, thanking her for her business

I paint little strips of glitter nail polish on the dollar... the Fairy's magic glitter... never leave home without it.
When she had to get a tooth pulled, she got a hula-hoop (from Dollar Tree) but she got a gift because the TF knows that having the dentist pull it is more
then it falling out on it's own.
My brother and I got .25/tooth until Mom caught him trying to pull teeth out so he could buy a bike
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

We give $1 and sprinkle fairy dust on the night stand (dd wouldn't put it under her pillow ~ she was afraid she'd wake up & see the fairy and not get anything).

I started getting 50 cent pieces when I lost my baby teeth and then my mom started putting a $1 under our pillow. I remember one time I woke up and there were: pennies, dimes, and nickels worth 50 cents under my pillow. I am guessing the tooth fairy had to hit the "change jar" that time
. It's special when you are a kid though!

My guys got those Sacajawea dollars too sometimes. Sometimes, the tooth fairy was tired and just gave them a paper dollar.
Actually, the boys are older now. We were counting out our "funny money" (a handful of silver dollars, old coins, a few Sacajawea dollars, etc). There were only like $5 worth of Sacajawea dollars. They would lose a tooth, buy something (we paid and they paid us back when we got home), and then we would give them the same dollar when they lost another tooth. They thought we had a huge stash of them. They never realized they were getting the same coins over and over again.Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998
