Default Thank God for my mom...

Hello everyone! I just have to say what a great mom I have. Just let me say first that my mom is disabled and stays home most of the time. She is pretty set with money, but just cannot go out and enjoy it very often. She has lots of health problems and she is tied to her oxygen 24/7. But anyway, today she wanted to go to a nearby town to buy Mrs. Wick's pies. The factory is about 25 miles from her house. I drove and she gave me gas money. Then she bought me 4 pies for my freezer. I was thrilled. Then on the way home there is a butcher out in the country and they sell beef pre-packaged. Well when we got there she told me to get $50 worth of meat for us and she would buy it. I was thrilled! I got quite a bit of really good hamburger patties, chuck roasts, bacon, pork patties, ribeye steaks, etc! My freezer looks so full I can hardly stand it!

My husband has been laid off since March 7th and our savings is gone. We are living on unemployment and what I make from the schools and my part time job. I went through June not working but 1 shift at the other job. Today my superviser called me and asked me to pick up some hours due to others on vacation. I said sure and now I am going to work 32 hours the next week and 32 the week after that! Actually 4 shifts in 3 days! Whew! But, we need the money and that's why I hang on to the job because there is a need for flexible people. Its really gonna help us with the rest of the summer and school starting!

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Thanks! We are just struggling like a lot of other families. I am so proud of my oldest daughter (15) she is babysitting all summer and making $100 per week! She has been buying a lot for school already. She starts high school this year. My youngest isn't fond of my working, but we talked about it and she understands that times are tough! My second job is doing supported living for the mentally disabled. I work with the same three ladies in their home and it's really not hard. Just more of what I already do at home. Assisting them with cooking, housework, shopping etc. There are times I can even bring them over to my house to see my kids and pets. They love that! They don't have much family and what they do have basically just see them on holidays. How sad! My husband even helps them when something needs fixing, otherwise they would have to pay a plumber, electriction etc.

i can see where you'd start to have a real friendship/relationship with the people that you were working with while at their homes. how sad about their families and them not having many visitors. sounds like you're going to have a much busier and $$ filled next couple of weeks though. and what a sweet and hard working daughter it sounds like you have.

It sounds like the apple (you) doesn't fall far from the tree (your mom).

It is sad that their families don't have much contact. But, with their mental capabilities, they don't even realize that. They are really sweet gals. I say "gal" but two of them ar in their late 50's and the other is in her mid 30's. One is so funny, she writes everything you tell her in a calendar. Then the next week, she will say things like " so did you pick up Shelby from camp today?" It kills me that she cannot remember her address but she can tell me when my anniversary is! She know when my school starts, when my girls have sporting events and even when my school breaks are. Amazing, huh?

How wonderful that you and your husband are helping out these mentally challenged women. They sound like real sweethearts and you do, too. I'm glad you're able work more hours the next couple of weeks and I know your mom buying y'all that meat is a BIG help. It sounds like you have a wonderful family.

Awww you're mom sounds like a wonderful woman. It also agree with the other posters that you and your husband are doing a wonderful job helping the three ladies. It is so sad to me when family is not around to help out; I'm glad that you are there for them!
