I ward them off a couple of ways..if I think it is sinus related then I use my Nellie Pot and do a nasal rinse, take one excedrin tablet and place a hot pack on my nose and eyes and lay down.
If I think it is not sinus related I take one excedrin tablet and place a cold pack on the area of the head in which I feel the most pain.

Migraines are terrible. I hope that you can get a chance to rest and that it goes away soon.

I took some pain meds and then laid down with a cool rag over my eyes. I just got up awhile ago. The pain pressure is still there right above my left eye though. My vision has cleared up a little better. Everything was foggy there for a while.

I, too, suffer from migraines, so I feel your pain. Hoping that your laying down and wet towel will keep it away for good this time.

I too have suffered from migraines. Try having some caffeine-a cup of tea perhaps. It does help.
    Hope you feel better soon!

I'm SO sorry to hear about your headache - hope you feel better soon!

I've had migraines since last summer (almost exactly a year since I had my first thunderclap migraine on 7/4/07). I actually ended up in the ER with my first one because it was so severe that I thought there must be something seriously wrong with me. I've had all the tests (cat scans, mri's etc.) and 'migraine' is the only diagnosis they've come up with (thank goodness it's nothing worse!).

I've been able to wean myself off the expensive prescription medication the doc put me on by watching the trigger foods (chocolate is a big one for me) and my stress level (a little harder to control than the food!), and by keeping a handy supply of - believe it or not - Dollar General Store brand Migraine Headache Medicine. It may not work for everyone, but it has worked for me - I have been able to go as long as 2 months without a migraine this way. I still get them, but not as frequently - when I first started getting them, and was on the prescription medication, I was getting them every other week - a rotten way to live.

In addition to watching the trigger foods and stress level, I try to stay hydrated - dehydration is definitely the enemy when it comes to headaches!

Best wishes for a quick recovery!

I used to get them so bad, vision would go, it would actually make me sick to my stomach, if I caught it fast enough and could go lie down in a dark room, silent, sometimes they wouldn't get so bad. I was told mine were part stress related. Although some of the worse were brought on by a very bright light or even a scent. And then one day I realized I hadn't had one in a very long time. That was probably 5 years ago. strange.( of course that was also around the time that my son moved out.)

Depending on the severity of the migraine Execedrine Migraine works wonderful.
Don't be afraid to up the recommended dose.
Over the counter meds can't tell you to take in prescription strength.

Immitrex has worked for lots of people, but I am not a fan of prescriptions drugs.

Keep hydrated and work on figuring out your triggers.
    Typical ones.
STRESS (could that be it> )
    caffeine
chocolate (good thing I don't get migraines)

Two triggers for me are cheddar cheese and any amount of alcohol, even one sip. Oh yeah, Codeine will also give me a migraine.

But I have found as I have gotten older the migraines are much less. Maybe that has something to do with hormones, I don't know.
