That is an interesting article. Even though the gas prices are taking a much larger chunk of our budget now (due to my husband's job - I don't use much gas myself) I agree that there are some positives to it.

I saw on the news last night that Walmart is going to begin purchasing more local foods; I don't shop there a lot but I think whenever a big business makes efforts to go local it is a great start to helping our economy, our health, and the environment.

Thanks for the article. I will have to change my point of view. I do not hope gas prices continue to rise however as a nurse I think the health benefits are wonderful!! The saved lives due to less people on the roads and more people walking is wonderful!!! Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease are two major killers in our country and anything which gets people more active is GREAT!!!

I agree with all of the 10 things referenced in the article and can probably come up with a few more. Although it is painful, I don't necessarily look upon this "recession" and oil spike as a bad thing for humanity and society in the long run. My family has had to make changes in response, and we started a few years ago after Hurricane Katrina, but the payback for our family has been pretty awesome. We spend more time together, less running around; we stopped building debt and although not debt free we have crossed over to having more equity than debt; DH and I are in the 'very' healthy levels based upon a recent health screening (his heart age was 10yrs younger than his actual age); I am more aware and try very hard to support local and cottage industries as I see that to be the wave of the future...and so on.
Now I am just waiting for my town to be able to hook into the areas public transportation system that we have been paying for over the last 12 years. Also, I am all for four day work weeks...I would even like to see the education system move towards this.

    Interesting, thanks Amy.
I figure there is good & bad in most everything. One thing I am looking forward to is seeing are less jet ski's and gas guzzling boats on the lake this season. Sorry to those who love 'em, I just like the quiet, sailing an such.
