Is a sex offender living near you?
This site is really great. It emails me when a new sex offender moves into my area. It shows a picture of the person and tells the offense and when it happened.

Yes there is a sex offender living on my street. He is compliant in everything that is required of him so there is not a thing that can be done about it. My kids now are big so sex offenders generally dont go after kids my kids ages. We live 2 blocks from an elementary school and he has kids living right across the street and right below him. He lives in the upstairs apt of his sisters house. I know him by sight. They live about 10 houses from us.

Everywhere I've moved, I've kept an eye on the listings for sex offenders and their proximity to our home. Fortunately, there are none listed in our immediate area (at least for about 3 miles)...but there is someone living not far from us that makes my "creepy person" alert start dinging madly every time I see him. He has a private lake, and we introduced ourselves and asked permission to use the lake for fishing. He gave us permission, but also informed me that he loves for kids to come and use the dock for swimming at his house, and he gives kids free guitar lessons, etc. Ok, not so creepy at first, but then he stopped at our house (stayed in his vehicle) when my son was outside mowing the grass, and told him "you look all sweaty - why not come down for a swim?"......mom's 'creepy person' alert just went into overdrive! He's stopped again since then and reminded my son that he could come swimming anytime he wants.
I realize that this person may just be a nice guy - but to be honest, as a child sexual abuse survivor myself, he's freaking me out. Call me overprotective, but this guy gives me the absolute creeps, and there's no way in heck we're ever using his lake for fishing, let alone swimming. I've also told my kids that if they see him stopping his vehicle in front of our house again, they are to beat feet into the house without talking to him.Last edited by suebeehoney; 07-02-2008 at 11:21 PM. i love that site. i heard the link somewhere on TV and i went to it.
i actually looked at a sex offender's home while house hunting in january..... didn't know it until after i searched the area we were moving to. he has to move out of the house because the town built a school a block away. now, even though the offense wasn't for a child (it was on an older woman YEARS ago), i'm happy that he had to move out of the neighborhood....

i am none too happy with our situation.
here is the way that ohio works it.
no longer will neighbors be notified unless the person is a teir three offender.
so we had a sex offender move in three houses from mine! i am pissed!!!!!!!!!!
but i (me being the person that i am) went and talked with him. i told him that everyone on the street knows that he is an offender. (i told them, gave them a print out and made sure that EVERYONE knew what he looked like)!
i also told him that if he kept to himself and did what he was supposed to do according to his probation and all, then we would leave him alone. but the first time that he was out talking to one of the kids, or anything, then that was it! i would be all over him like white on rice!
we also have another one around the corner. but i know him. his crime happened when he was 18. he was dating a girl who was 17. they had sex right before her 18th birthday and her parents found out and filed charges. now, the guy is in his 30's, but happened before the laws changed to consensual sex at 14. he got the shaft, but he does what he is supposed to do and we leave him alone.
now there is another guy moving in on another street. one that my youngest daughter will have to use to walk to school. do you think that she is going to be walking to school?? not on your life will she!
but i check the registry weekly, as that is when it is updated. i also get email's from a friend that is a sherrif's deputy. so he lets me know when someone in our platte has been arrested for that.
but as someone mentioned, i am a survivor of child molestation. so i make sure that i keep an eye on my girls!

When we first bought this house four years ago there was a man an a woman across the street who were both convicted sex offenders. They had been busted for prostitution. Almost three years ago they moved away. Now we are sex offender free. Yay!!!

Just and FYI, this site is not totally accurate! I normally go to the Illinois State police website and their website has 3 sex offenders that live within a mile from me (none are super close) and this website is not showing them. I literally just checked for comparison. Not sure why they aren't there, but just wanted to let you guys know that this site might not include everyone.

We check our state registry every so often and yes was quite surprised to find 35 registered offenders a 15 mile radius of where we live.
Hubby checks it more now to keep dd informed of who she could run into at school or work. She may be "all grown up and on her own" but she is still daddies little girl.Last edited by LuvMyHubby; 07-03-2008 at 11:12 AM. Reason: worded wrong
